That is a seller-listed starting-price comparison, not a universal market price, and the phones are in different product tiers. The FE is the lower-priced option; the iPhone may suit you better if you specifically want its larger display, Apple platform, and listed camera hardware.
At a glance: what differs

| Battery and charging claims | Apple estimates up to 33 hours of video playback; MagSafe charging up to 25W with a 30W-or-higher adapter, and Qi2 up to 15W. Apple specifications | TechRadar reports a 4,900mAh battery, 45W wired charging, and 15W wireless charging. TechRadar |
| Price context | AT&T US retail starting price: $1,099.99 (listing accessed October 7, 2026) | AT&T US retail starting price: $699.99 (listing accessed October 7, 2026); TechRadar reports a US launch price of $699 for 128GB |
The table combines specifications from different publishers, and the prices are not a matched, market-wide survey. In particular, Apple’s video-playback estimate and Samsung’s battery capacity use different measures; they do not establish which phone lasts longer in comparable use. Nor do chip names or megapixel counts alone establish which phone is faster or takes better photos.

How much more does the iPhone cost?
On the AT&T US comparison page accessed October 7, 2026, the listed retail starting prices were $1,099.99 for the iPhone 16 Pro Max and $699.99 for the Galaxy S26 FE, a $400 gap. AT&T’s displayed FE monthly amount is tied to a new line, an eligible plan, installment terms, and credits; it should not be read as an unconditional cash price. AT&T device comparison
Storage makes a direct value comparison less simple. AT&T lists the FE at 128GB and the iPhone at 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB. TechRadar reports US FE launch prices of $699 for 128GB and $799 for 256GB. Those are reported launch prices, not a guarantee of current retailer pricing. TechRadar’s S26 FE coverage

TechRadar reports that the S26 FE first went on sale September 4, 2026. Its launch-price figures were $699 (128GB), $799 (256GB), and $949 (512GB) in the US; £699, £799, and £949 for those capacities in the UK; and AU$1,149, AU$1,299, and AU$1,599 in Australia. TechRadar also says the 128GB launch price was $50, £50, and AU$50 higher than the preceding S25 FE launch price in the respective markets; that is a historical launch-price comparison, not a current discount. Which camera setup suits your photos?
The clearest hardware distinction in the cited specifications is telephoto reach: Apple lists a 12MP 5x telephoto on the iPhone, while TechRadar lists an 8MP 3x telephoto on the FE. The iPhone also has a 48MP main and 48MP ultra-wide camera; the FE has a 50MP main and 12MP ultra-wide.

A 5x lens frames distant subjects more tightly than a 3x lens from the same position, while a 3x view can be more convenient when a subject is closer. That describes focal-length roles, not a guarantee of better image quality. The megapixel figures likewise do not settle detail, low-light performance, color, or video quality. The sources cited here do not provide a matched test of both phones’ photos, so choose based on the focal lengths you use and seek comparable sample images if image quality is the deciding factor.

- The large 6.9-inch display combines ProMotion 120Hz technology with advanced color calibration, giving movies, games, and productivity apps a spacious, crisp, and fluid visual experience that’s ideal for multitasking or immersive media consumption.
- Titanium frame and reinforced edges provide a premium, durable build, reducing weight compared to stainless steel while enhancing grip and making the phone easier to handle during long sessions of video recording, gaming, or editing.
- Camera system designed for versatility and precision, including ultra-wide, wide, and telephoto lenses with improved low-light and macro capabilities, giving photographers and creators a broader range of expressive tools while maintaining sharp details across the frame.
- Advanced Action button offers customizable shortcuts, allowing quick access to features like capturing photos, launching apps, controlling accessibility tools, or activating automation tasks without interrupting your workflow.
- Audio and video performance optimized for creators, with spatial audio, improved microphones, and stabilized video recording, providing professional-quality sound and smooth footage whether recording content, streaming, or joining video calls.
Display size and everyday use
The iPhone’s 6.9-inch diagonal is 0.2 inches larger than the FE’s 6.7-inch display. That is a modest size difference, not evidence by itself that one screen has higher resolution, brightness, or visual quality. If you often watch video or prefer more screen area, the iPhone is the larger of the two; if you prefer a slightly smaller display, the FE is the more compact choice by diagonal. The available figures do not establish a weight comparison.
Software, support, and switching from iPhone
Choose first by the operating system you want to use: the iPhone runs iOS, while Samsung’s UK product page says the FE launches with One UI 9 based on Android 17. Samsung’s stated support commitment for that UK product page is “up to 7x of OS upgrades and up to 7 years of security updates.” This is Samsung’s published promise for the product, not an independent measurement; check the terms for the region and model you plan to buy. If moving from an iPhone to the FE, Samsung describes Smart Switch as supporting wireless transfer of contacts, photos, messages, and apps by scanning a QR code. Treat that as a way to move supported content, not a promise that every app, account, setting, or app-specific data will carry over seamlessly. Check the services and apps you rely on before switching. Samsung UK product page
Battery and charging: read the figures carefully
Apple’s up-to-33-hour figure is an estimate for video playback, while TechRadar reports the FE’s 4,900mAh capacity. A capacity number and a playback-time estimate cannot be compared directly, and the cited sources do not establish a matched battery-endurance result. For charging, Apple specifies MagSafe up to 25W with a 30W-or-higher adapter and Qi2 up to 15W; TechRadar reports 45W wired and 15W wireless charging for the FE. Those figures describe different charging methods and conditions, so they are not a direct measure of how quickly each phone charges in practice.
Best Value
- The larger 6.9-inch display enhances productivity and media consumption, giving extra room for multitasking, side-by-side apps, and immersive viewing without feeling unwieldy in hand.
- Camera improvements focus on ultra-wide performance, capturing more detail at the edges of the frame and reducing distortion, making landscape shots, group photos, and architecture photography cleaner.
- Refined gesture controls and haptic feedback make interactions feel more precise, so scrolling, tapping, or switching between apps is smoother and more satisfying compared to previous Plus models.
- Audio enhancements optimize speaker output for spatial awareness, delivering clearer separation between instruments and voices in music, video playback, and FaceTime calls without relying on headphones.
- Durable yet lightweight materials balance heft and portability, with a subtly textured back and reinforced edges that improve grip while maintaining the premium appearance expected from the Plus series.
Which one should you buy?
- Choose the iPhone 16 Pro Max if you want iOS, use Apple devices or services, value the 6.9-inch display, or specifically want the listed 5x telephoto configuration. Compare the price at your preferred storage tier rather than treating the base-price gap as a same-capacity comparison.
- Choose the Galaxy S26 FE if you want Android, a lower listed starting price, Samsung’s published support commitment, or a 3x telephoto camera. Confirm that 128GB or the available higher-capacity configuration fits your needs.
- Pause before deciding if camera quality, battery life, speed, or overall value is your deciding factor. The cited specifications do not include a matched camera, performance, or battery test, so those results cannot be settled from this comparison alone.
