The Fold8 is the newer generation, but its higher reported U.S. prices are not a like-for-like current comparison with Apple’s 2023 launch price. Choose based first on whether you want a single-screen phone or a foldable, then check current prices for the same storage tier in your country.

Which screen and form factor fit better?
Choose the iPhone for a single, familiar phone display
The iPhone’s 6.7-inch OLED stays in one solid phone body. It is the simpler choice if you want a large conventional screen and do not need a display that unfolds. Apple lists its resolution at 2,796 × 1,290 pixels and adaptive refresh up to 120 Hz.

Choose the Fold8 for an expandable workspace
Fold8’s 5.5-inch cover screen is for use while closed; opening the device exposes a 7.6-inch inner display. That inner canvas is the central practical advantage for viewing more content at once or working across a larger screen. The trade-off is a folding design rather than a single slab. Samsung’s figures come from its Gulf guide; regional model details may vary.

How do the cameras compare?
The most concrete distinction is optical reach. Apple announced a 5x telephoto camera exclusive to the iPhone 15 Pro Max at launch, alongside a 48 MP main camera. Samsung lists a 50 MP wide camera and up to 10x digital zoom for the Fold8; Tom’s Guide’s review says the Fold8 lacks a telephoto zoom lens.
These figures do not establish which phone takes better photos overall: megapixel counts and digital zoom are not direct image-quality comparisons, and no controlled side-by-side test is available in the cited sources. If a dedicated optical telephoto lens matters, the iPhone has the documented advantage; assess broader camera quality from direct comparisons relevant to your use.

Apple lists the iPhone 15 Pro Max at 221 g; Samsung’s Gulf guide lists the Fold8 at 201 g. Those are manufacturer-published figures, and the Fold8 weight should be checked against the exact regional model if carrying weight is decisive.

Samsung Gulf claims a 4,800 mAh battery, 45 W fast charging and up to 26 hours of video playback for the Fold8. Apple’s cited specifications do not provide a matched capacity or playback figure for the iPhone, so these numbers cannot establish which lasts longer in everyday use. Samsung’s battery and charge figures are manufacturer claims, not a head-to-head endurance test.
Storage options and memory
Both phones are listed in 256 GB, 512 GB and 1 TB storage tiers, so capacity alone does not separate them. Samsung’s US page associates 12 GB of memory with the Fold8’s 256 GB and 512 GB versions, and 16 GB with the 1 TB model. The cited Apple specification page does not state iPhone RAM, so there is no supported RAM comparison here.

Price difference: use a current, matched quote
The available figures are from different dates and do not show today’s like-for-like price gap. Apple announced the iPhone 15 Pro Max at a U.S. starting price of $1,199 for 256 GB on September 12, 2023. Tom’s Guide reported U.S. Fold8 prices on September 30, 2026: $1,899 for 256 GB, $2,099 for 512 GB and $2,499 for 1 TB. The iPhone amount is a historical launch price, not a current retailer quote; do not subtract it from the Fold8 report to infer a current difference.

Which phone should you choose?
- Pick iPhone 15 Pro Max if you prefer a conventional phone body, want Apple’s documented 5x optical telephoto camera, or are already invested in Apple’s operating system and services.
- Pick Galaxy Z Fold8 if an inner display that opens to 7.6 inches is more valuable to you than a single-screen design, and you prefer Samsung’s Android ecosystem.
- Compare current local prices before deciding if value is the deciding factor. The published figures above are not same-date prices for both phones.
The models are also from different release generations: the iPhone 15 Pro Max dates to 2023, while Samsung says it unveiled the Fold8 in July 2026. There is no supported universal performance winner here: the available Samsung chipset descriptions conflict, and no benchmark comparison is established.
