The iPhone 14 Pro Max is the stronger pick for photography and display features: it has a dedicated telephoto camera, LiDAR, Pro camera formats, ProMotion, and an Always-On display. The iPhone 15 Plus is the better fit if you want USB-C and a newer Plus model. Both use the A16 Bionic generation, so the 15 Plus does not bring a newer chip generation.

Which phone has the better display?
The core display size and family are similar, but the 14 Pro Max adds ProMotion and Always-On display. ProMotion supports a higher refresh rate for smoother motion, while Always-On can show key information without fully waking the display. Apple’s comparison lists neither feature for the 15 Plus, so choose the 14 Pro Max if these screen features matter to you.
Does the iPhone 15 Plus have a better camera?
Not overall in hardware flexibility. The 15 Plus has a 48MP main camera and offers a 2x telephoto view by cropping from that main camera. The 14 Pro Max has a separate telephoto camera in addition to its main and ultra-wide cameras, plus LiDAR and Pro formats including ProRAW and ProRes. That dedicated camera hardware gives the Pro Max more options for distant subjects and advanced photo or video workflows.

Apple described the 15 and 15 Plus at launch as bringing camera innovations and Dynamic Island; that was product marketing, not an independent evaluation. Is the iPhone 14 Pro Max still worth buying?
It can be, if the particular unit is in good condition and its price makes sense against a comparable 15 Plus. Its dedicated telephoto camera, LiDAR, Pro camera formats, ProMotion, and Always-On display remain the reasons to choose it. Since these are older devices, assess the actual phone rather than relying on model name alone.

What is the price difference?
A reliable current price gap cannot be stated without dated, like-for-like offers for a specified market, storage size, and condition. The 15 Plus launched in 2023, but its launch timing does not establish its current price or availability from Apple. Retailer and refurbished-device listings can differ substantially according to storage, condition, seller, and warranty.
For a fair comparison, find offers in the same market and on the same date, then compare the same storage tier and condition, along with unlocked status, return window, and warranty. Avoid comparing a new or certified-refurbished phone with a used listing as if they were equivalent.

Which connector fits your setup?
The 14 Pro Max uses Lightning; the 15 Plus uses USB-C. If you already own cables, docks, or wired accessories, account for the cost and compatibility of switching—or the convenience of staying with your current setup. USB-C does not guarantee that every peripheral will work: check compatibility for the specific accessory you plan to use.

- Choose iPhone 14 Pro Max if the dedicated telephoto camera, LiDAR, ProRAW or ProRes, ProMotion, or Always-On display are priorities.
- Choose iPhone 15 Plus if USB-C and a newer Plus model matter more, and you are comfortable with a dual-camera system and without the listed Pro display features.
