IONOS can be a good-value choice for a single WordPress site if you are comfortable with the renewal price and the plan’s site and email limits. Its US WordPress offer captured on September 30, 2026, starts at a promotional $1 per month for Grow, but renews at $12 per month. Performance evidence is mixed: independent reviewers tested different IONOS products over different periods, so neither a blanket “fast” nor “reliable” verdict is justified.
What IONOS is and who it suits
IONOS is a German internet service provider offering shared and WordPress hosting alongside domains, email, website-building tools, and online-store services. EXPERTE.com reported 6.2 million customers in its 2026 review; that is the reviewer’s company-scale figure, not an independently audited current disclosure. EXP ERTE.com’s IONOS review describes a one-click WordPress setup and gives the service an overall score of 6.4/10.
The most straightforward fit is a budget-conscious person or small business setting up one WordPress site who values bundled basics over migration assistance or proven performance under heavy traffic. It is less compelling if you need multiple WordPress installations on one plan, want a free site migration, or need performance assurances beyond the varied third-party test results.
What the current US WordPress plans cost
The official IONOS US WordPress hosting page displayed the following one-year-term examples when accessed on September 30, 2026. The introductory and subsequent monthly prices are both shown because the renewal figure is essential to judging the deal.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errors2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems| Plan | Displayed price during one-year term | Then | Storage and email | Notable listed features |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Start | $5/month | $8/month | 25 GB SSD; one email address | Standard performance, automatic backups, vulnerability and malware detection |
| Grow | $1/month | $12/month | 50 GB SSD; five email addresses | Enhanced performance, automatic backups plus 12 months of Jetpack Vault, AI tools |
| Next displayed tier | $12/month | $17/month | 75 GB SSD; 10 email addresses | Performance boost, automatic malware removal |
The page also advertises hosting “Starting at $1/month,” but that headline does not describe every plan or its renewal cost. These are US-market examples, not universal prices: offers, eligibility, terms, and features can vary by country and change over time. Confirm the checkout total, contract length, and renewal price for your location before buying.
EXP ERTE.com’s August 10, 2026 review describes the Start, Grow, and higher WordPress tiers as allowing one WordPress installation per plan, and notes features including NVMe storage, unlimited traffic, and automatic updates. Plan pages can change; check the local offer for current inclusions. The one-installation limit matters more than the storage allowance if you expect to host several separate WordPress sites.

Performance: why the reviews do not produce one verdict
Independent results differ because the reviewers did not test the same product category or monitoring window. Treat the figures as observations from those tests, not guarantees for your account, location, or future traffic.
| Reviewer and test | Reported result | How to interpret it |
|---|---|---|
| EXP ERTE.com, six-week managed WordPress test | 98.92% uptime; 0.39-second TTFB; 1.28-second LCP | Results for that reviewer’s managed WordPress test and observation period |
| HostingTweaks, shared-hosting review, last tested August 16, 2026 | 99.79% uptime over a 30-day monitoring window; 185 ms TTFB | A different hosting product category and shorter stated uptime window; not directly comparable with the WordPress test |
Cybernews considers IONOS suitable for typical small-to-medium sites but describes speed as inconsistent and performance under heavier traffic as difficult in its assessment. TechRadar also lists below-par performance as a shared-hosting drawback. These are reviewer judgments, not service-level guarantees. For a business site where slowdowns or downtime have a direct cost, evaluate performance for your own workload rather than relying on a single score.

Setup, included services, and practical trade-offs
Beginner-friendly WordPress tools
EXP ERTE.com describes one-click WordPress setup. Cybernews discusses a WordPress builder and assistant, automatic updates, scans, and backups. Those tools may reduce setup work for a first-time site owner, but the specific bundle depends on the product and plan you purchase; verify the current local plan details.
Site, storage, and mailbox limits
The US WordPress offer shown above lists one, five, and 10 email addresses across the displayed tiers. Do not assume those figures apply to IONOS shared hosting: TechRadar describes a one-account limit on the shared-hosting plans it examined. EXP ERTE.com says the WordPress tiers it reviewed allow one WordPress installation each, while TechRadar distinguishes shared-hosting plans that support multiple sites. Check limits for the exact product line, not just the IONOS brand.

Migration is not included as a free service in the cited reviews
TechRadar says IONOS does not offer free website migration, and EXP ERTE.com reports no migration service in its review. If you already have a live site, include the cost and effort of moving it in your decision: you may need to handle the transfer yourself or arrange outside help.

Compare IONOS with alternatives using the same site, contract, and workload assumptions. An introductory price alone is not a useful comparison if one host renews at a different rate or includes different limits.

Best Value
- Total cost: Compare the full intended term, including the post-promotion renewal price and any separately needed services.
- Site capacity: Check the number of installations or sites allowed and the storage available for your planned site count.
- Email: Confirm the mailbox or address allowance for the specific hosting product.
- Protection and backups: Compare what is included, how long any bundled service lasts, and whether malware detection or removal is included.
- Migration: Account for who will move an existing site and whether that work costs extra.
- Performance and support: Look for evidence relevant to a comparable workload and verify which support channels are currently available in your market.
On the available evidence, IONOS is a plausible low-cost starting point for a single WordPress site, especially if the tools and bundled services match your needs. It is not automatically the cheapest over time, and the cited performance findings do not establish how it will perform for every site.
