Inworld announced on September 30, 2026, that it had acquired Ultravox, the Seattle-founded voice-agent platform that began as Fixie. Inworld said some Ultravox team members joined it and would continue developing the platform. The companies did not disclose the transaction price in the announcement, and contemporaneous coverage reported that the sum was undisclosed.
Who acquired Ultravox, and when?
Inworld announced the acquisition on September 30, 2026. Its announcement describes Ultravox as a platform for building real-time voice agents and says team members who joined Inworld will continue developing it. GeekWire’s October 2, 2026 report said the acquisition sum was undisclosed.
The announcement date is not necessarily the transaction’s closing date: the sources do not establish a definitive closing date. They also do not establish how many Ultravox employees joined Inworld. GeekWire said it was unclear whether the entire team would join, so the supported description is that some team members joined—not that the full team transferred.
What happened to Fixie AI?
Ultravox launched in 2022 as Fixie, according to GeekWire. On June 25, 2025, the company announced that Fixie.ai was becoming Ultravox AI, saying the new name reflected its full-time focus on voice AI. That was a company renaming, not a separate acquisition of Fixie by Ultravox. The original rebrand announcement explains the change.

What does the Inworld acquisition mean for Ultravox?
The companies describe the deal as combining different parts of a real-time voice-agent stack. In the acquisition announcement, Ultravox’s role is described in terms of understanding speech, reasoning, completing tasks, and managing live conversation—including turn-taking and interruptions. Inworld’s contribution is described as speech models, model serving, and real-time inference infrastructure.
Those are the companies’ stated product rationale, not independent evidence that the acquisition has already improved performance. The announcement frames the combination as an expansion of Inworld’s speech-to-speech research and voice-agent capabilities; it does not provide comparative benchmarks or measured post-acquisition results.

Will Ultravox customers need to migrate?
At the time of the announcement, Inworld told existing customers their agents would continue running without a migration or code change required as part of the acquisition. It also said existing voice IDs would keep working and that built-in Inworld voices on Ultravox would move to Realtime TTS-2 at no additional charge. Customers using voices from other providers were told that nothing changed for them at that time. These are the commitments in the acquisition announcement; later product changes could supersede them.
The Inworld voice integration predated the acquisition. On January 21, 2026, Ultravox announced that agents could use prebuilt Inworld TTS 1.5 voices in 15 languages, and that eligible Inworld customers could assign custom voice clones. The integration announcement describes that earlier offering; the acquisition announcement subsequently said built-in Inworld voices would move to TTS-2.

How much did Inworld pay for Ultravox?
The acquisition price was not disclosed in the contemporaneous reporting. GeekWire reported that Ultravox announced a $17 million seed round in March 2023. It also cited PitchBook for a $51.46 million valuation in 2023. That valuation is historical funding context attributed to PitchBook via GeekWire; it is not the acquisition price.
