To install Sim with Bluehost’s one-click image, open your self-managed VPS or VDS in the Bluehost Portal and use Reimage > Applications > Sim. Reimaging permanently erases the server’s data and settings, so back up and verify anything you need before confirming. Bluehost’s guide also gives conflicting minimum resource figures; check the requirements for the image and plan before proceeding.
Before you reimage: understand the data-loss risk
Bluehost warns: “Changing the server image will permanently erase all data and settings on this VPS and VDS. This action cannot be undone.” Save anything you need elsewhere and verify that the backup is usable before you start. A local external drive may be useful for a copy of your data, but it is not required to install Sim and may not be suitable as your only backup.

Reimaging replaces the server image; it is not an in-place installation that preserves the existing system. If you want to keep the current template, Bluehost’s guide says to install the application manually over SSH instead of using the one-click image. Bluehost’s Sim reimage guide, updated August 28, 2026, covers self-managed VPS and VDS plans.
Check the server requirements before choosing the image
Bluehost’s guide conflicts with itself about the minimum CPU and storage requirements. Its initial table says 8 vCPUs, 16 GB DDR5 RAM, and 100 GB NVMe are the minimum, while later text gives a minimum of 4 vCPUs, 16 GB RAM, and 100 GB disk. The table lists 8 CPU cores, 48 GB RAM, and 450 GB storage as recommended. These are Bluehost-published figures, not independently validated benchmarks.
#1 Best Overall
| Source and context | CPU | Memory | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Bluehost table: stated minimum | 8 vCPUs | 16 GB DDR5 RAM | 100 GB NVMe |
| Bluehost table: recommended | 8 CPU cores | 48 GB RAM | 450 GB storage |
| Bluehost guide: later minimum statement | 4 vCPUs | 16 GB RAM | 100 GB disk |
Because those Bluehost statements disagree, confirm the requirements for the currently offered plan and Sim image with Bluehost before buying or reimaging. Bluehost also cautions that less than 16 GB RAM may cause out-of-memory errors.
Sim’s own self-hosting documentation gives general tiers for workloads; these are not confirmation of the requirements for Bluehost’s prebuilt image:
Rank #2
| Sim self-hosting tier | CPU | Memory | Storage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Small | 2 CPU cores | 12 GB RAM | 20 GB SSD |
| Standard | 4 CPU cores | 16 GB RAM | 50 GB SSD |
| Production | 8+ CPU cores | 32+ GB RAM | 100+ GB SSD |
Sim describes these as workload-oriented tiers and notes that memory is often the limiting resource. Your actual needs depend on what you run and how many users or tasks it must support.
Recommended Free Tools
Reimage a Bluehost VPS or VDS with Sim
- Sign in to the Bluehost Portal.
- Open Hosting > My Plans, then manage the self-managed VPS or VDS package you want to rebuild.
- Select Reimage, then open the Applications tab.
- Choose Sim. Bluehost says the system selects the recommended operating system for the application.
- Review the data-loss warning. If you have verified your backup and intend to replace the current image, type
reimagewhen prompted to confirm. - Wait for installation to finish. Check the server’s Server Image section; Bluehost says it should show Sim when the image is installed.
The one-click installer permits only one application. If you need to retain your current template or choose a different setup, use the manual SSH route rather than assuming the image will preserve existing services or settings.

What to expect after the Bluehost image installs
Bluehost’s guide describes image-specific first-boot steps: connect over SSH, check services and logs, create the first account through the web interface, and configure a Sim Copilot key. For this image, the guide says there is no default administrator password; the first visitor creates the admin account. It also describes generating the Copilot API key in Sim settings and restarting the service after adding it. Follow the current Bluehost guide for these steps rather than treating them as universal requirements for every Sim deployment.
When a manual Sim deployment makes more sense
Sim’s current official documentation describes Docker Compose and Kubernetes deployment options. The Docker guide presents Compose as the quickest way to evaluate Sim and a fit for a single-node team installation. It covers configuring required secrets, setting the public URL, and starting the production Compose stack. Sim presents Kubernetes as an option for high availability and managed secrets.

These are Sim’s general deployment paths, not documentation certifying the exact configuration of Bluehost’s prebuilt image. The Docker documentation also covers connecting the production stack to an Ollama instance for local models; those instructions should not be assumed to match the Bluehost image’s configuration.

No. Reimage instructions from another provider do not show that the provider offers Bluehost’s Sim application image. For example, IONOS’s reimage guide covers choosing an operating system, setting an initial password, and initializing a covered dedicated server; it estimates about one hour to several hours depending on the operating system. Liquid Web’s bare-metal reimage guide describes selecting an OS and template and acknowledging that data will be overwritten. Neither guide establishes Sim-image availability on those services.
