Install Hotspot Shield from the official source for your device: download the Windows installer from your Hotspot Shield account page, get the Mac app from the Mac App Store, or install the mobile app from Google Play or Apple’s App Store. Android TV has its own Google Play and activation steps. After installation, open the app, follow its prompts, and approve any VPN-profile request.
Choose the official installation route

Install Hotspot Shield on Windows
- Sign in to your Hotspot Shield account page.
- Open the Hotspot Shield tab and download the app.
- Find the downloaded
.exefile, open it, choose Install, and follow the installer prompts. - Open Hotspot Shield and select Start. If you want a particular server location, choose one in the app.
These steps follow Hotspot Shield’s Windows installation instructions and Windows connection guide. The vendor says the desktop app updates automatically after installation, except for the version downloaded from the Microsoft Store.

- Open the Mac App Store and search for Hotspot Shield.
- Select GET, then INSTALL APP.
- Launch the app and allow the VPN profile installation prompt if it appears.
- Find Hotspot Shield in Launchpad and open it to continue setup.

Install it on an Android phone or tablet
- Open Google Play and search for Hotspot Shield.
- Select the app, tap Install, and accept any prompt shown.
- Open the app and follow its sign-in or subscription prompts.
Hotspot Shield’s Android installation article says Android 8.0 or later is compatible, while its supported-device and account-limits article lists Android 5.0 or later. Because the vendor’s pages conflict, check the current Google Play listing for your specific device rather than relying on either minimum as universal.
Install it on iPhone or iPad
- Download Hotspot Shield from the Apple App Store.
- Open the app after installation and follow the prompts to sign in.
Hotspot Shield says that on iOS 14 or later, configuration-profile setup is included with app installation; older manual-profile instructions do not apply in the same way. Its iOS installation guide has the platform-specific details.

Install Hotspot Shield on Android TV
- From the Android TV home screen, open Apps, then Google Play Store.
- Search for Hotspot Shield and select Install.
- Open the app and use the displayed URL or QR code to complete activation on a phone or computer.
Hotspot Shield’s Android TV installation guide says this use requires a Premium account. Confirm that your exact TV or streaming device supports the app before starting: the vendor lists Android TV as supported, but lists non-Android smart TVs, consoles, Kindle tablets, Linux, and routers among unsupported categories in its supported-device article.

Sign-in and account expectations
Premium features require signing in with a Premium account. The vendor’s account-limits article, updated October 8, 2025, says Basic accounts can link one device and Premium accounts can add up to ten. Check that article for current account terms if the device limit matters to you.

If installation works but the VPN will not connect
- Confirm Wi-Fi or mobile data works, then check that Hotspot Shield and your device’s operating system are up to date.
- Temporarily check whether another VPN, firewall, antivirus app, or network utility is interfering. Re-enable security software after diagnosis; if appropriate, configure an exception rather than leaving protection disabled.
- On iPhone or iPad, the app’s Settings → Re-install VPN Profile option can recreate the profile. Hotspot Shield also recommends checking internet access, updating the app and iOS, ruling out conflicting VPN or security apps, and toggling Airplane Mode. See its iOS connection troubleshooting guide.
- On Android, the vendor suggests clearing the app cache or data and restarting the device for system errors. Clearing data signs you out.
- On Mac, the vendor’s connection guidance includes removing the VPN profile and reinstalling the app when needed.
- On Windows, if simpler checks fail, the vendor’s system-error guide suggests restarting the Hotspot Shield service, ending a stuck Hotspot Shield process, or reinstalling the app.
For platform-specific error steps, consult Hotspot Shield’s system-error troubleshooting guide. These are troubleshooting options, not a guarantee that every connection failure has the same cause.
