Install Devin Desktop on Ubuntu 24.04 or 26.04 through its official Debian package repository. Devin’s Linux guide documents this route for Ubuntu 20.04 and later, which includes both releases; it does not provide a separate test matrix confirming each one individually. The repository URL retains the former Windsurf name, but the package to install is devin-desktop.
Before you begin
These steps use the official guide’s Debian package (APT) route. The documented repository is for amd64 systems. To check your system’s architecture, run:

dpkg --print-architectureContinue if the output is amd64. The commands below add the repository signing key and APT source, then install the desktop package.

1. Install the prerequisites
sudo apt-get install wget gpg2. Add the signing key and repository
The official instructions use a Windsurf-named host and key file. Devin’s guide says this legacy naming is expected; keep the host and key instructions as shown.

Finish onboarding and optionally enable the terminal command
Sign in with a Devin account during onboarding; the guide also says users can sign up for free. If you run into login trouble, it lists API-key login as an alternative.

If you want to start the IDE from a terminal, leave the option to install the devin-desktop command enabled during onboarding. The guide’s example for opening a project is:

The official guide describes the deb package route as available for “Ubuntu 20.04+.” That stated minimum covers Ubuntu 24.04 and 26.04, but the guide does not publish release-by-release test results. The support statement is therefore based on the documented version floor, not a claim that either exact release has been independently tested here.

When to use another Linux download
The official Linux guide also provides a tarball and RPM instructions, but neither replaces the Ubuntu APT procedure for readers who want repository-based package updates. The tarball does not update itself. RPM instructions target Fedora 36+, CentOS 8+, and RHEL 8+ rather than Ubuntu.
Devin CLI is separate terminal-based software. Its Linux shell installer installs the CLI, not the Devin Desktop IDE; use the APT commands above to install Desktop.
Devin Desktop and the Windsurf name
Devin’s product page describes Devin Desktop as the new name for Windsurf. It says Windsurf users can receive the change through a standard over-the-air update or by downloading the latest Desktop version, with existing plans, pricing, extensions, settings, and in-progress work carrying over. This is product-page information about the rename and update, separate from the Ubuntu installation steps.
