No—Instagram does not notify someone when you screenshot their regular feed post, according to Android Authority’s February 3, 2026 guide. Stories also do not trigger screenshot alerts in that guide, but some disappearing media and Vanish Mode conversations in Direct Messages can. The answer depends on where the content appears and whether a DM is temporary.
Does Instagram notify someone if you screenshot their post?
No. For a regular Instagram feed post, the person who published it is not notified when you take a screenshot, according to Curtis Joe’s February 3, 2026 Android Authority guide. Instagram does not provide the poster with a list identifying who captured an ordinary post.

The same guide says Instagram does not notify someone when their Story is screenshotted. A screenshot alert is separate from any indication that you viewed a Story.
#1 Best Overall
- Vibrant 6.1-inch Super Retina XDR display with OLED technology. Action mode for smooth, steady, handheld videos.
Direct Messages have different rules depending on how the content was sent:
| Content | Screenshot notification described by Android Authority |
|---|---|
| Regular feed post | No notification to the poster. |
| Story | No screenshot notification. |
| Ordinary image attachment from your device gallery in a DM | No notification; it is treated as a standard message. |
| Disappearing photo or video sent through the DM camera flow | The sender can receive a screenshot notification. Device behavior may also restrict capturing this media. |
| Conversation in Vanish Mode | Instagram can show a notification when someone takes a screenshot. |
How to interpret the answer
- If you mean a standard post on someone’s profile or in the feed, the poster is not notified of your screenshot.
- If you mean a Story, the cited guide likewise reports no screenshot alert; do not confuse that with Story-view information.
- If you mean a DM, first consider whether it is a normal attachment or temporary content. Disappearing camera media and Vanish Mode are the cases where the guide reports alerts.
These details describe behavior reported on February 3, 2026, by a secondary source, not a verified official Meta policy statement. Instagram can change feature behavior, so this should not be treated as a permanent guarantee across all app versions or capture methods.
