1Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems2Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minute3Clear out junk files and repair common Windows errorsTo see Instagram posts without suggested posts mixed in, open the feed selector at the top of the Instagram feed and choose Following. That view shows posts from accounts you follow in chronological order. Instagram does not document this as a permanent default opening feed; an Android automation has been reported as a workaround, but it depends on screen taps and can be unreliable.
How do I stop seeing Instagram recommendations?
Tap the Instagram logo at the top of your feed, then select Following. Instagram’s August 2022 description says this view contains posts only from accounts you follow, in chronological order, with no suggested posts. It can include up to the last 30 days of posts so you can catch up. Meta’s description of the feed controls dates from 2022, so the selector’s placement or wording may differ by app version or account rollout.

Favorites is another option in the feed selector. It shows a dedicated feed of accounts you have marked as favorites; Meta says those accounts’ posts appear higher and more often in your regular feed as well. Choose Following for everyone you follow, or Favorites for a smaller, hand-picked circle.

What can I do if I want to keep using the main feed?
Instagram provides separate controls for shaping recommendations. They affect suggested content, but they do not make Following the permanent opening screen.

- Not interested: Dismiss a particular suggested post and tell Instagram to show fewer similar recommendations.
- Snooze suggested posts: Pause suggested posts for 30 days, according to Meta’s 2022 guidance.
- Reset suggested content: Clear recommendations across Feed, Explore and Reels. Meta says recommendations personalize again over time based on the accounts and content you interact with. See Meta’s November 2024 announcement.
These controls concern recommendations, not all advertising. Meta’s description of Following does not say that ads disappear from Instagram, and a 2024 guide distinguishes suggested posts from ads, noting that ads remain after a suggested-post snooze. MacRumors’ explanation of feed suggestions covers that distinction.
Can I make Instagram open to Following?
Instagram’s cited guidance describes Following as a view you select, not a permanent default. A third-party report published September 17, 2026 describes an Android workaround using MacroDroid: launch Instagram, wait for the interface to load, tap the feed selector by screen coordinates, then tap Following or Favorites. This is a reported automation, not a native Instagram setting, and it has not been independently tested here. Read the reported Android workflow.

- Hands-Free Control: The Wireless remote enables instant pairing with smartphone and remote capture from up to 33ft/10m. Ensures rock-solid stability for blur-free photography and Start/Stop video recordings effortlessly—all without device contact.
The method is fragile because coordinates vary between phones and may stop matching after interface changes. The report also warns that Instagram can briefly show its default screen before the automation switches feeds, and that triggering the macro again at the wrong moment can tap an unintended part of the app. Treat it as an experiment for an Android device you can troubleshoot, not as a guaranteed way to suppress recommendations.

The report’s iOS Shortcuts and Samsung SmartThings examples open Instagram Messages; they do not document a route to Following or Favorites. It therefore does not establish an equivalent recommendation-avoidance automation for iPhone.
