Insta360’s Spatial Capture beta can turn a short 360-degree video into an explorable 3D Gaussian Splatting scene. TechRadar reported on 2 October 2026 that the feature supports the X4 Air, X5 and X6 through the Insta360 app and includes four generations per month. It is a way to create and share a navigable scene—not a conventional mesh scan or a measurement-grade surveying tool.
What Insta360 Spatial Capture does
Spatial Capture uses 3D Gaussian Splatting (3DGS) to reconstruct a scene from 360-degree video. Rather than building a conventional polygon mesh, 3DGS represents the scene with many small, colored, semi-transparent Gaussian primitives. The result can be explored from different viewpoints.

TechRadar’s 2 October 2026 report describes the feature as a beta and identifies the X4 Air, X5 and X6 as compatible. In the reported workflow, you connect a camera to the Insta360 app, select a video and send it for cloud processing. The report does not establish universal regional availability or a definitive firmware or app version, so compatibility and rollout may vary.
How to create a scene
- Record a 360-degree video that is two minutes or shorter, the limit reported by TechRadar.
- Connect the camera to the Insta360 app and open Spatial Capture.
- Choose Create My Space and select the clip you want to process.
- Wait for cloud processing, then open the resulting scene in the app or share its browser link.
TechRadar says Insta360 recommends 8K at 30 frames per second in PureVideo or standard video. I-Log footage and videos with applied filters are reported as unsupported. The same report says Insta360 recommends good lighting, few people in the scene and a capture area no larger than 100 square meters (about 1,076 square feet). These are reported guidance and limits for the beta, not a guarantee that every clip meeting them will process successfully.

What the free allowance includes—and what it does not
The allowance reported by TechRadar is four generations per month, resetting on the first day of each month. “Generation” refers to creating a processed scene; the source does not describe it as unlimited retries or establish that unused generations roll over.
Once a scene is ready, TechRadar says it can be explored in the Insta360 app or shared through a web link that opens in a browser without an app download. At the time of that report, users could not export the result as a file. That makes Spatial Capture useful for quick creation and viewing, but a poor fit if you need a local asset to edit or use in another 3D application.

Spatial Capture or Splatica?
TechRadar frames Spatial Capture as the casual, low-cost option and Splatica as the higher-quality choice for professional or enterprise work. Choose Spatial Capture if you already own a compatible camera and want a small monthly allowance for scenes you can explore or share. What to know if a clip fails
Check that the video is within the reported two-minute limit, uses a supported recording mode, and does not have filters applied. Good lighting, few people and a modest capture area match the guidance reported by TechRadar. A failed upload does not by itself establish that a particular phone is incompatible: the article mentions one author’s X6 clip failing twice and an app warning about an iPhone 15, but that is a single beta experience, not evidence of a general phone requirement or failure rate.
