FlyDubai Flight FZ1073 diverted from its Dubai-to-Tel Aviv route and landed safely at Tabuk Airport in Saudi Arabia on September 30, 2026, after an incident in the flight deck. FlyDubai says on-duty crew members secured the aircraft and passengers assisted. The UAE has ordered an investigation, but the cause and motive have not been established.
What happened on FlyDubai flight FZ1073?
FlyDubai says FZ1073 was operating from Dubai International Airport to Ben Gurion International Airport on September 30 when an incident occurred in the flight deck. The aircraft diverted and landed safely at Tabuk Airport. In a later statement, the airline characterized the event as an altercation in the flight deck and said on-duty FlyDubai crew members traveling on the flight secured the aircraft, diverted it and landed it safely. The Associated Press reported more specific details, describing a wounded captain fighting off the copilot and passengers intervening. AP reported that the captain was Indian and seriously injured; it described the copilot as suspected of starting the clash and believed to be Omani. Those are AP’s reported details, not established findings from an official investigation.
What does the reported four-hour timeline show?
AP reconstructed the flight’s movements using Flightradar24 and AirNav Radar tracking records. The times below are GMT; they are reported tracking observations, not findings from a published accident or criminal investigation. Associated Press report

- 05:22:40: It descends to 16,600 feet, then climbs to 21,725 feet three seconds later.
- 05:24:29: It descends to 15,000 feet, the lowest altitude AP reports, and remains there until landing.
- 05:28: The aircraft squawks 7700 near the Saudi-Jordanian border.
- 05:35: The transponder code changes to 7500.
- 05:42: The aircraft turns west and briefly enters Jordanian airspace.
- 05:46: It turns southwest toward Tabuk, Saudi Arabia.
- 06:28: It returns to squawk 7700.
- 06:58: It approaches and lands at Tabuk Airport.
What do squawk 7700 and 7500 mean?
In the AP-reported timeline, 7700 is the general-emergency transponder code, while 7500 is the code for unlawful interference. The sequence—7700, then 7500, then 7700—records what the aircraft transmitted according to the tracking-based reconstruction. It does not, by itself, establish what happened in the cockpit, why the codes changed or what investigators will ultimately conclude.
How many people were aboard, and were they safe?
The reported totals conflict. AP’s timeline says 182 people were on board. FlyDubai’s later CEO statement says 172 passengers and crew were on board and safe. The sources do not reconcile the ten-person difference, so neither figure should be presented as an agreed total. FlyDubai separately reported that its captain returned to the UAE after receiving medical clearance.

Why did the flight divert to Tabuk?
FlyDubai says the aircraft diverted after the flight-deck incident and landed safely at Tabuk; the AP-reported route shows it turning toward the Saudi airport. The available statements do not establish the detailed operational decisions behind the diversion. The tracking record shows where the aircraft went, not the decision-making or motive behind its route.

FlyDubai says a full official investigation led by the relevant authorities is underway and that the underlying reasons and motives were unknown at the time of its statement. The airline later said it had suspended flights to Tel Aviv at the request of authorities; that is a time-sensitive airline update. FlyDubai’s CEO, Ghaith Al Ghaith, said: “A full official investigation, led by the relevant authorities and fully supported by flydubai, is underway.”

The UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the Attorney-General ordered a team of specialized Public Prosecution members to investigate the circumstances and causes. Its stated investigative questions include whether there was any possible connection to terrorist activity or intent, and whether there was prior planning or direction. Those are lines of inquiry, not evidence that such a connection, intent or planning occurred. The official statements do not establish a final cause, motive or investigative finding. FlyDubai’s spokesperson said: “At this early stage, the underlying reasons and motives behind this event are unknown and remain subject to a formal investigation.” The airline and UAE ministry have urged reliance on official information and caution against premature speculation while the investigation proceeds.
