To put a table in an email on a Mac, first identify your email composer. In Apple Mail, switch the message to rich text, then try pasting in a table copied from a document. For Gmail in a browser, a community-suggested workaround is to build the table in Google Docs and paste it into the Gmail draft. Check the layout before sending: neither cited workflow guarantees that formatting will be preserved exactly.
Insert a table in Apple Mail
Apple says rich-text (HTML) messages can contain tables; plain-text messages cannot. Its instructions explain how to switch formats, but do not document a dedicated table-insertion command. If you already have a table in a document, copying and pasting it into a rich-text message is a workaround to try, not a guaranteed Apple Mail feature.

Open the message you are composing in Mail.

If the message is plain text, choose Format > Make Rich Text. Apple says this command is available when the current message is in plain-text format.

If you want new messages to use rich text by default, open Mail > Settings, click Composing, and choose a message format.

Copy the table from the document where you created it and paste it into the message. Inspect the draft to confirm that its rows, columns, and formatting look right before sending.
Apple cautions that “Rich text (HTML) format can include formatting, tables, and images, but may be unreadable for some recipients.” Apple’s Mail guide explains the format controls and this compatibility concern.

A Gmail Help Community accepted response dated June 22, 2022 suggests creating the table in Google Docs and copying it into the Gmail composer. This is community advice, not an officially documented or guaranteed Gmail feature.

Check the pasted draft. Formatting may change, and text may wrap into extra lines; leave enough room in cells for the content. If the layout is important, send a test message and inspect it before sending the final email.
Google’s Gmail keyboard-shortcuts page documents formatting and list shortcuts, but the cited page does not document a native insert-table command. That alone does not establish that every Gmail version lacks support for pasted tables.

Choose the approach that fits the message

Need a table in the message body: In Apple Mail, use rich text and try pasting a prepared table. In Gmail, try the Google Docs copy-and-paste workaround.

Need exact formatting for recipients: Preview the draft and test it with the recipient setup when possible. Apple notes that rich text may be unreadable for some recipients, and the Gmail community workaround warns that pasted formatting may change.

Plain text is required: A plain-text Apple Mail message cannot contain a table. Consider sending the table as a separate document instead of relying on an in-body layout.
