There is no universal winner between InMotion Hosting and ScalaHosting. For the specific VPS examples displayed on their official pages on October 4, 2026, InMotion has the lower advertised starting price, while ScalaHosting emphasizes managed cloud features such as offsite backups and migration assistance. Those prices are not a like-for-like comparison: ScalaHosting’s page allows configuration of its cloud build, and the selected resource quantities were not all established. Choose by matching resources, renewal cost, management, control panel, and server location—not by entry price alone.
What this comparison covers
This is primarily a VPS comparison, not a comparison of the providers’ cheapest products across every hosting category. InMotion lists shared, WordPress, VPS, dedicated, and reseller hosting. ScalaHosting’s reviewed page focuses on configurable managed cloud VPS and it also promotes WordPress cloud hosting. Compare the same hosting tier and a similar configuration; a shared-hosting price cannot establish which provider offers better VPS value. InMotion Hosting’s plans and ScalaHosting’s managed cloud page describe different product ranges.

The providers’ official pages accessed October 4, 2026, show the following examples. Prices and product details can change, so confirm the selected term, checkout total, and plan inclusions before purchase.
| Example | InMotion Hosting | ScalaHosting |
|---|---|---|
| Displayed price and renewal | $9.99 per month for the 24-month term; displayed renewal is $16.99 per month. | Build #1 displayed at $29.95 per month; displayed renewal is $54.95 per month. |
| Resources shown | 4 vCPU, 8 GB RAM, 160 GB NVMe SSD, 5 TB bandwidth, and two dedicated IPs. | CPU cores, memory, and NVMe storage can be configured; the page’s extracted Build #1 selections do not establish all quantities. |
| How to read the example | A stated resource configuration and term-specific price. | A starting managed-cloud build and renewal price, not a verified resource match to the InMotion example. |
InMotion’s pricing page also shows different prices for other terms. Treat the figures above as the specific displayed examples, not a general monthly rate or proof that InMotion is cheaper for equivalent resources. ScalaHosting’s page lists higher introductory and renewal prices for additional builds, but the selected build’s full resource quantities must be checked before comparing it with another plan. Management, onboarding, and included features
InMotion Hosting
InMotion lists Launch Assist, website transfers, server setup, dedicated IPs, and cPanel or Control Web Panel availability for its VPS offering. Its VPS overview also lists free SSL. Confirm which management and panel options apply to the exact plan and whether any setup service has plan-specific conditions. These are provider-listed features, not independently tested outcomes. InMotion VPS features.
ScalaHosting
ScalaHosting’s managed cloud page lists automatic offsite backups, a dedicated IP, multiple sites, app support and installation, website and email migration, SSL certificates, global CDN integration, malware protection, and WordPress staging and cloning. The page also advertises 24/7 technical support and an anytime money-back guarantee. Check the selected plan and billing terms for the exact scope of each inclusion. ScalaHosting says, “We can save you the time and effort of moving it to ScalaHosting and perform the migration for you”; that is the provider’s description of its migration service, not an independent assessment. Locations and independent performance evidence
Location can matter as much as a plan’s headline resources when latency to your audience is important. VPSBenchmarks’ comparison page lists three InMotion data centers and thirteen ScalaHosting data centers, spanning two and four continents respectively. TechRadar’s January 22, 2026 InMotion review reports facilities in California, Virginia, and Amsterdam. These are source-specific snapshots, not a guarantee that every location is selectable on every plan; verify the location offered for your intended configuration. VPSBenchmarks provider comparison; TechRadar’s InMotion review.
VPSBenchmarks says its grades draw on web, CPU, endurance, disk, and network testing, and that price is excluded from its default performance grades. Its listed ScalaHosting plans have different resource profiles and trial dates; the tested configurations and dates do not form an identical, universal head-to-head matchup. Use the individual plan details and test conditions rather than turning category grades into a blanket winner. The comparison page’s feature matrix marks both providers for backups and DDoS protection, lists load balancing for ScalaHosting but not InMotion, and SSH key setup for InMotion but not ScalaHosting. Treat those entries as that site’s snapshot and verify current product-level availability. VPSBenchmarks methodology and feature comparison.

TechRadar’s review also discusses InMotion’s Launch Assist and migration features and notes that uptime wording and guarantee terms are not consistently clear across the pages it reviewed. InMotion advertises 24/7 support, uptime monitoring, and money-back terms, but those vendor statements should not be read as an independently verified uptime result or a straightforward uptime guarantee. The review is not a matched performance test against ScalaHosting. TechRadar’s January 2026 InMotion review.

Choose InMotion if
- The displayed 4-vCPU example and its $9.99-per-month 24-month price suit your needs, and you have checked its $16.99 monthly renewal and total commitment.
- You value the listed Launch Assist, transfer options, or availability of cPanel and Control Web Panel.
- You want to compare VPS with a broader range of hosting products, including shared, WordPress, and dedicated hosting.
These points describe fit, not a guarantee of lower cost or better performance for every workload. Review InMotion’s current VPS plans.
Rank #4
Choose ScalaHosting if
- You want the managed cloud feature set listed on its page, particularly automatic offsite backups and migration assistance.
- A ScalaHosting location fits your audience and is available for the plan you intend to buy.
- You have confirmed the exact CPU, memory, storage, billing term, and $54.95 monthly displayed renewal for Build #1 and consider the cost acceptable.
The displayed $29.95 introductory price is not enough to establish value until you know what resources the selected build includes. Review ScalaHosting’s managed cloud options.
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. How to make a fair final comparison
- Match the workload and hosting tier. Compare VPS with VPS, then identify the CPU, memory, storage, bandwidth, and number of sites your workload needs.
- Compare the complete bill. Check the billing commitment, introductory price, renewal, checkout total, and refund terms for the exact plans; do not treat a promotional term as a recurring monthly price.
- Confirm management and control-panel needs. Check which onboarding, migration, backup, and panel services are included in the plan rather than relying on provider-wide feature summaries.
- Verify geography and performance evidence. Confirm that your desired location is offered for the selected plan. For performance, prioritize independent measurements that match your workload and compare the test dates and configurations.
The plan pages and third-party comparison describe features and test information, but they do not establish the outcome of a direct migration, support, or workload test between these providers. An independent, workload-specific measurement is a better basis for a performance decision than either vendor’s general claims.
