Infineon Technologies inaugurated its new semiconductor manufacturing site in Samut Prakan, Thailand, on 1 October 2026. The site employed about 350 people at opening; Infineon expects that number to rise to approximately 1,000 as its first building, Module A, ramps up. A separate Thailand Board of Investment forecast of more than 5,000 jobs covers a broader, planned five-phase project—not immediate hiring at the new site.
What is Infineon’s new Thailand chip hub?
The facility is a backend manufacturing site in Samut Prakan, near Bangkok. Infineon says it adds production capacity and geographic diversity to the company’s global manufacturing network, complementing its expansion in frontend manufacturing. Thai Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul and Infineon COO Alexander Gorski attended the inauguration.

The site is designed to handle advanced cleanroom work, semiconductor backend processes and wafer testing. Infineon says its production will support complex chips and modules for automotive, industrial and energy-infrastructure applications. The Thailand Board of Investment (BOI) describes the planned integrated complex as bringing together front-end wafer testing, power-module assembly and integrated-circuit testing at one location. It cites AI data centers, electric vehicles and industrial automation among the demand drivers.

How many jobs are expected, and when?
There are two employment estimates, with different scopes. Infineon reported around 350 employees when the site opened and expects the workforce to reach approximately 1,000 as Module A ramps up. That is a company projection, not the current headcount or a claim that the site has already reached that level.

The BOI, meanwhile, says the wider project could create more than 5,000 skilled local jobs across five planned phases—about 1,000 per phase. That forecast concerns the broader multi-phase development and should not be read as an additional immediate hiring commitment for Module A.
What is planned beyond the first building?
The BOI describes the investment as $1.4 billion (48 billion baht). The project starts with Module A and could expand through five modules, A through E. At full build, the BOI says the complex could have 150,000 square meters of cleanroom space and become Infineon’s largest backend assembly and testing center worldwide. Those are planned full-build figures, not a description of current operating capacity. Infineon separately says the modular site could grow to as many as five modules and has the potential to become one of its largest backend sites over time.

How is Thailand building semiconductor skills?
Infineon says it is working with universities, educational institutions and industry partners on talent development. The BOI outlines a broader ecosystem program with the Thai Semiconductor Industry Association and local universities. Its stated plans include at least 60 specialized courses, training for 1,100 undergraduates and 18 joint research and development projects. These are program plans or targets; they are not reported as completed results.

Infineon says Module A runs on 100% green electricity and includes rainwater collection and onsite solar modules. The company’s site information also sets a 25% water-recycling target; that percentage is a target, not a reported achieved rate. Infineon says Module A has LEED Silver certification.

Why the project matters for chip supply chains
Semiconductor manufacturing includes multiple stages, and this site’s stated role spans wafer test and backend assembly and testing. Adding those capabilities in Thailand gives Infineon another location in its production network, while the modular expansion plan allows the site to grow if later phases proceed. The opening establishes the first step; the projected workforce, full-build cleanroom area and broader job totals depend on ramp-up and future development.
Infineon COO Alexander Gorski called Bangkok’s “location and growth potential” important to the company’s manufacturing footprint. Prime Minister Anutin described the investment as confidence in Thailand’s ambitions to become a semiconductor location. Those statements reflect the company’s and government’s rationale; the announced job and capacity figures remain forecasts for future stages.
