Impeccable: A Design Skill for Better AI-Built Interfaces

Impeccable gives AI coding agents design guidance and deterministic checks for interface patterns. Here’s how its workflow and setup work—and what they don’t prove.

Impeccable gives AI coding agents design guidance and checks for common interface patterns. It can help you brief an agent, refine a page, and catch certain issues, but it is not a guarantee of professional-quality design or better business results.

What Impeccable does

Impeccable is a software skill and workflow for people who build interfaces with AI coding tools. Its commands help direct design work—whether you are starting a page, improving an existing one, or checking an interface. The goal is to give you and the agent a shared vocabulary for design decisions, rather than relying on vague instructions such as “make it look better.” See the official website and design workflow guide.

For example, Impeccable’s documentation suggests starting with the question: “If your app looks obviously AI-generated and you cannot explain why, start there.” A more specific brief might identify a problem—important dashboard numbers are hard to find—and ask the agent to improve hierarchy while keeping the brand colors. That is an example prompt, not evidence of user testing or a measured result.

How the workflow fits together

  1. Give the agent a goal. Describe the page or interface you want to create or improve. When relevant, state what is not working and what should remain unchanged.
  2. Establish project context. The /impeccable init command records durable product context in PRODUCT.md. Impeccable uses DESIGN.md for visual direction, keeping product facts and design guidance distinct. The command documentation explains the available commands.
  3. Choose a direction, then build. Use the guidance to make design choices before asking the coding agent to implement the interface. The documented workflow can also be used to refine existing pages and maintain consistency as a product grows.
  4. Review the result. Use the available checks and, where your coding tool supports it, inspect and iterate on the result in the browser. Automated checks and an agent’s design critique are separate forms of review.

What the automated checks can—and cannot—tell you

The README describes deterministic detector rules in Impeccable’s CLI and browser extension. These checks do not require an LLM or an API key, so they form a distinct layer from asking an AI agent to critique a design. The README and FAQ describe the checking tools and setup.

A detector can flag patterns covered by its rules; it cannot establish that a page is useful, accessible in every context, on-brand, or effective for its audience. Treat the output as one input to review, not as an approval stamp. Impeccable’s product record says it has no customer testimonials or quantified outcome studies on hand, so claims that it improves conversion, guarantees professional-review success, or demonstrably raises design quality are not established by the published evidence. See the product record.

Install Impeccable and initialize a project

The official getting-started guide specifies Node.js 22.18 or later. It recommends working in a project folder with your coding tool, installing Impeccable, and then initializing it in the agent chat.

  1. Open your project folder in a supported AI coding tool.
  2. Check that Node.js 22.18 or later is installed.
  3. In a terminal, run npx impeccable install. The installer selects an integration for the coding tool where supported.
  4. In the coding agent’s chat, run /impeccable init to set up the project context.
  5. Follow the tool-specific instructions for any trust prompts, permissions, or optional hooks, then confirm the skill is available in your project.

These steps follow Impeccable’s Install & first steps guide; consult it for the current instructions because supported integrations and setup details can change.

Which coding tools are supported?

The getting-started guide lists Claude Code, Codex, Cursor, GitHub Copilot, Gemini CLI, OpenCode, Pi, and other coding tools. Installation details vary. The guide describes an in-product route for GitHub Copilot and installation options for other tools; check the instructions for your specific tool rather than assuming the same command or setup applies everywhere.

Installing or linking the skill does not automatically mean design hooks are enabled. Hook support depends on the coding tool, and setup may involve workspace trust or approval steps. The setup guide and FAQ cover those distinctions.

Who is Impeccable for?

Impeccable is aimed at designers, product managers, and engineers who already use AI coding tools and want to guide or review the interfaces they produce. It is most relevant when you can describe a concrete design goal—such as improving hierarchy or making a page more consistent—and want a repeatable way to communicate that goal to an agent.

It is less useful as a substitute for product judgment: you still need to decide whether the proposed direction suits your users, content, and brand. If you are comparing Impeccable with another design skill or workflow, look at whether it supports your coding tool, the stages it covers, how it stores project context, what kind of checks it provides, and the setup it requires. The available official material does not provide a head-to-head evaluation proving that Impeccable is better than alternatives.

What to know about its command and rule counts

Official pages give different command totals: the README describes 24 commands, while the product record describes 23. The README also states that the product has 61 deterministic detector rules. These are inventory figures, not evidence of effectiveness; because the command counts conflict, it is safer to consult the current documentation rather than treat one total as definitive.
