Here are the keyboard shortcuts documented for iMovie on Mac, grouped by task. Press all keys in a shortcut at the same time. These mappings are from Apple’s iMovie for Mac User Guide; they are not a reference for iMovie on iPhone or iPad.
Import, playback, and navigation

To select all clips in the timeline, click in the timeline first. To select all clips in the browser, click in the browser first.

When a shortcut does not work
- Check the active area. Select All depends on whether the timeline or browser is focused; click the area whose clips you want to select before pressing Command-A.
- Check what is selected. Some commands apply only when a clip or another item is selected. For example, Command-Backslash opens or closes the clip trimmer when a clip is selected.
- Open the contextual shortcut menu. Control-click the relevant item to see its shortcut menu when a command is hard to locate or depends on that selection.
- Check Apple’s current guide after an update. Apple’s online reference does not identify a specific iMovie build or exact revision date, so these mappings should not be treated as tied to a particular release.
