The IKEA STARKVIND E2007 is better at cleaning airborne particles than removing gases: in Forbrugerrådet Tænk’s accessible test, particle cleaning was rated good and gas cleaning poor. Its five fan levels let you trade faster particle delivery for more noise and power use. The optional gas filter is a separate consideration—and was not tested in Tænk’s assessment.
What the E2007 is—and what the test says
IKEA identifies this model as the STARKVIND air purifier, type E2007. It measures 51 cm wide, 53 cm high and 19 cm deep, and weighs about 5.9 kg, according to IKEA’s E2007 manual.

Forbrugerrådet Tænk gives the purifier an overall score of 67% in a comparison of 27 tested products. The accessible Tænk product page rates particle cleaning good and gas cleaning poor. The page does not state a publication year, so the score should be read as the result displayed there rather than a dated current-market ranking.
Tænk reports a measured smoke CADR of 330 m³/h against a stated 270 m³/h, and gives a test-based suitable maximum room area of 27 m². IKEA’s manual, by contrast, lists particle-only CADR figures by fan level. These figures come from different sources and contexts; the room-area figures should not be treated as interchangeable ratings.

How much air it moves, and what that costs in noise and power
IKEA’s manual lists airflow, noise and power for each of the five fan levels. Values in parentheses are with the optional gas filter installed; the other values are with the particle filter alone.

The jump between the quietest and strongest settings is substantial: particle-filter-only operation rises from 24 dB(A) and 2.0 W at level 1 to 53 dB(A) and 33 W at level 5. With both filters, the corresponding endpoints are 24 dB(A)/1.9 W and 51 dB(A)/25 W. Tænk describes noise as below average overall, with poor measured noise; perceived noise was very good at the low setting and medium at maximum. Its energy category was good, including very good standby use, below-average minimum/rest consumption, good maximum consumption and very good CADR per watt.

For a bedroom or other quiet space, the low setting is the more plausible continuous-use choice, but it also moves less air. Higher settings deliver more airflow if you can accept greater noise and power draw. The right setting therefore depends on whether quiet operation or faster particle removal matters more in your room.

Particle filtration versus odors and gases
Particles
The included particle filter is the E2007’s stronger-supported use case. IKEA says it is optimized to filter approximately 99.5% of smaller airborne particles such as PM2.5, dust and pollen. That is a manufacturer claim, not the independent result shown on Tænk’s page. Tænk’s separate rating for particle cleaning is good.

Gases and odors
IKEA sells an optional gas filter intended for certain gaseous pollutants, including formaldehyde, and says it can reduce smoke and cooking odors. Installing it changes the manual’s maximum listed CADR from 270 m³/h with the particle filter alone to 240 m³/h with both filters. Tænk says the gas filter is available separately and was not tested, so its poor gas-cleaning rating does not establish whether the optional filter works well or poorly.
The built-in sensor measures PM2.5 while the purifier is running; it is not a gas sensor. If your main concern is odors or gaseous pollutants, do not treat the particle-cleaning rating or PM2.5 display as evidence of gas removal.

Room-size claims depend on the source
IKEA’s US product page describes the purifier for areas up to 215 square feet, approximately 20 m². Tænk reports a stated room area of 20 m² and a test-based suitable maximum area of 27 m². The 27 m² result is Tænk’s test outcome, not a replacement for IKEA’s regional product-page specification. Use the rating method and airflow level relevant to your room rather than assuming a single universal coverage number.
The US page is regional listing content, not a global specification. Room size is only part of the decision: a purifier run quietly on its lowest setting moves less air than at full speed, and the optional gas filter also reduces the listed CADR.

Maintenance and smart controls
Filters and cleaning
IKEA recommends cleaning the pre-filter every two to four weeks and cleaning the air-quality sensor every six months. The manual lists six-month replacement cycles for the particle and gas filters, while noting that the recommended intervals can vary with the operating environment. After changing a filter, press and hold RESET for three seconds to initialize the filter counter.
IKEA UK’s support instructions say to unplug the purifier, remove the front and black pre-filter to reach the particle and/or gas filter, and reset the indicator after replacement. Local filter availability and cost are not established by the cited pages, so check those before choosing the purifier for long-term use.
Auto mode and app access
Auto mode adjusts fan speed based on ambient air quality. App air-quality status is available through the IKEA Home smart app, but smart features require a compatible IKEA smart-home hub rather than being built into the purifier as standalone app control. The manual names the TRÅDFRI gateway; IKEA’s current US product page describes DIRIGERA for additional features. Requirements can vary by market and setup, so confirm local compatibility before buying a hub.

Who should consider the STARKVIND E2007?
- Good fit: someone prioritizing particle filtration who can use a low setting for quieter operation or tolerate more noise when higher airflow is needed.
- Less compelling: someone whose main goal is gas or odor removal and who wants independent test evidence for the optional gas filter; the accessible Tænk test did not include that filter.
- Check before committing: whether IKEA sells the appropriate replacement filters in your market, and whether the hub-dependent app features justify the additional setup.
