iHome Speaker Won’t Pair? Check Bluetooth Mode and Previous Devices

Check Bluetooth mode and pairing, clear any connection to another nearby device, then forget and re-pair the speaker on your iPhone. Reset steps vary by iHome model.

If your iHome speaker won’t connect to your iPhone, first check that the speaker is on and in Bluetooth mode, then put it into pairing mode and select its name in the iPhone’s Bluetooth list. A speaker that is already linked to another nearby device may not accept the iPhone’s connection. If the basic checks fail, forget the speaker on the iPhone and pair it again. Use the instructions for your exact speaker model before trying a reset.

Why is my iHome speaker not connecting to my iPhone?

The issue is usually one of four things: the speaker is not in pairing mode, another device has taken its connection, the iPhone cannot see the speaker at the current distance or amid interference, or the saved pairing needs to be removed and made again. The right fix depends partly on whether the speaker appears in the iPhone’s Bluetooth list.

Check power, Bluetooth mode, and pairing mode

  1. Turn on the speaker and set it to Bluetooth mode, rather than another input or playback mode.
  2. Activate pairing mode using that model’s controls. For example, iHome’s FAQ for the iPBT50L.EXV24 says to hold the Bluetooth button for two seconds or until a beep or “Pairing” prompt. The iBT68 manual also specifies holding its Bluetooth button for two seconds, then selecting “iHome iBT68” on the phone. These examples are model-specific; check your speaker’s manual for its own button sequence. iHome support
  3. On the iPhone, open Settings > Bluetooth, turn Bluetooth on if needed, and tap the iHome speaker’s name when it appears.

If the speaker name does not appear, confirm pairing mode is active and try again. A speaker that is on but not discoverable is not necessarily ready to pair.

Disconnect the speaker from its previous device

Many iHome models automatically connect to the last device they were paired with when that device is nearby. If the speaker is connecting to another phone or tablet, turn Bluetooth off on that device or move it out of range, then put the iHome speaker back into pairing mode and select it on the iPhone. iHome support

Bring the devices closer and reduce interference

Try pairing with the iPhone close to the speaker and move both away from other wireless devices. iHome’s support material gives an approximate range of 30 feet for the iBT4 and 33 feet for the iPBT50L.EXV24. Those are model-specific guidance figures, not a guaranteed range for every iHome speaker or environment. iHome support

Forget the speaker on the iPhone and pair again

If the speaker appears in Bluetooth settings but will not connect, remove the saved pairing and start over:

Reset Bluetooth only with the exact model’s instructions

A reset is not a universal iHome procedure. The documented examples differ: an iBT24 can reset its Bluetooth settings by holding the pairing button for eight seconds, while iBT32 instructions specify holding its Bluetooth button for ten seconds when it is not in pairing mode. Do not apply one model’s sequence to another speaker. Find the model number on the speaker’s label and follow its manual or model-specific iHome support page. iBT24 instructions iBT32 instructions

  • Speaker listed but connection fails: Forget the saved device on the iPhone, then pair again.
  • Connection drops or will not hold at a distance: Test close to the speaker and away from other wireless devices.
  • No improvement after re-pairing: Confirm the model number and consult its exact instructions before attempting a reset. iHome notes that Bluetooth behavior can vary with a device’s hardware and operating system.
