Work through the checks below in order. Each step rules out one cause, and the earlier steps cost nothing and take only a minute or two.
Start by working out what kind of quiet you have
Before changing anything, answer three questions. The answers decide which checks matter most.

- One side or both? If both earbuds are quiet, look at volume settings first. If only one is quiet, look at balance, fit, and blockage.
- One app or device, or everything? Test the same earbuds with a different song, video, or connected device. If the problem follows the earbud to another device, the cause is more likely the earbud itself. If it stays with one phone or app, the cause is more likely that device’s settings.
- Does it change after a fit adjustment? Reseat the earbud and check whether the volume difference shifts. A fit problem usually changes with position; a fault usually does not.
Step 1: Check volume on the playback device and in the app
Raise the volume on the phone or computer and in the media app you are using. If both earbuds are quiet, check whether a maximum volume limit is set on the device, because a cap can make everything sound low. Soundcore’s support article on getting the right volume level on Anker Liberty Buds 2 (accessed 2026-10-07) covers computer, Android, and iPhone volume controls and device-level limits. Menu names differ between operating system and app versions, so follow the labels on your screen rather than a fixed path.

A shifted balance is one of the most common reasons one earbud sounds quieter, and it is easy to miss because the overall volume still looks normal. Look for the left/right balance slider in your phone’s or computer’s audio settings, and set it to the centre.

If your Anker earbud model is supported in the Soundcore app, also check the app’s balance control. Soundcore’s support articles list the device balance and the app balance as separate places to look, and a setting in one place can override the other. Make the adjustment in one place, test it, and only then check the other.
Step 3: Check fit and clear any blockage
Soundcore’s support guidance names fit as a common cause of a one-sided difference. Seat the earbud at its normal angle, and make sure the ear tip is not folded, covering, or obstructing the sound outlet. Then inspect the speaker mesh and any vent for dust, earwax, or debris.

To clean the mesh:
- Remove the ear tip if the model’s care instructions allow it.
- Use a dry cotton swab, a soft cloth, or a small clean brush to loosen debris from the mesh and vent. Work gently and in one direction.
- Avoid pushing debris deeper into the opening, and do not flood the earbud with liquid.
- Some Soundcore support pages mention a very small amount of rubbing alcohol for stubborn residue. Use it only if the care instructions for your exact model permit it, and let the earbud dry completely before reinserting the tip.
- Replace the ear tip, seat the earbud, and test again.
A soft cleaning brush is an optional accessory. Settings, fit, and cleaning with a dry swab cost nothing and should be done first.

Place both earbuds in the case, make sure they are charging, and let them charge fully. Then restart them according to your model’s instructions and reconnect to your device. A charging or connection fault can leave one earbud in a reduced state, so a clean restart is a reasonable check before any reset.

Step 5: Use the reset procedure for your exact model
Reset steps differ between Anker and Soundcore models, and the methods are not interchangeable. Soundcore’s official support articles describe case-button procedures for some models and touch-control procedures for others. Do not apply a reset from a different model’s guide.
Find your model number on the earbuds, the case, or the packaging, then search the Soundcore support site for that model’s reset article. Follow it exactly. If the procedure asks you to pair again, do so and test both earbuds with the same audio file.

When to contact Soundcore support
Contact Soundcore support if the imbalance remains after you have checked volume, balance, fit, cleaning, charging, and the correct reset for your model, and especially if the quiet earbud stays quiet on a second device. Include the model number, the connected device and operating system, the app version, and a description of what you tested.
Support can help you troubleshoot further, but the support articles do not state that persistent low volume proves a hardware failure, and they do not promise a repair or replacement. Warranty coverage depends on your purchase location and on the support team’s assessment.

Quick reference: symptom, likely cause, first check
| What you see | Most likely cause | First check |
|---|---|---|
| Both earbuds are quiet | Volume setting or maximum volume limit | Raise volume on the device and in the app; check for a volume cap |
| One earbud is quieter, and it is quiet in every app | Left/right balance shifted | Centre the device balance and the Soundcore app balance |
| One earbud is quieter, and the difference changes when reseated | Fit or wearing angle | Reseat the earbud and check that the tip is not obstructing the outlet |
| One earbud is quieter, with visible debris | Blocked mesh or vent | Clean gently following your model’s care instructions |
| One earbud is quieter after cleaning and fit checks | Charging, connection, or a model-specific state | Charge fully, restart, then apply the reset for your exact model |
| Still quiet on a second device after all of the above | Possible earbud fault | Contact Soundcore support with your model number and test details |
What this guidance does and does not establish
The checks above come from Soundcore’s official support articles, including its general Anker Liberty Buds 2 volume guide, its guide on one earbud that is not charging or connecting, and its model-specific articles for the P42i and the P31i/R60i NC. Soundcore’s P42i article states that if one earbud sounds quieter than the other, this is usually a fit or settings issue rather than a hardware fault. That is a statement about the P42i troubleshooting context, not a diagnosis of every Anker earbud. The support material does not publish any statistic on how often this problem occurs, so none is given here.
Bottom line
Most one-sided quiet cases come down to balance, fit, or a blocked mesh, and those are fixed without spending anything. Check the settings first, then fit and cleaning, then the reset for your exact model. Contact Soundcore support only after those steps fail on more than one device.
