IDShield may be worth paying for if you want ongoing identity and credit alerts backed by human help restoring your identity after confirmed fraud. Its main case is the combination of investigator-assisted restoration, monitoring options, and bundled privacy and security tools—not the headline insurance maximum alone. Official US monthly prices range from $14.95 to $34.95, depending on individual or family coverage and one- or three-bureau monitoring. Whether that is worthwhile depends on which features you will use and what the identity fraud plan actually covers.

What does IDShield cost in 2026?

IDShield’s official US pages listed these monthly prices on October 7, 2026. Prices may change, so verify the amount and terms before enrolling.

Coverage Credit monitoring Monthly price
Individual One bureau (Experian) $14.95
Individual Three bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) $19.95
Family One bureau (Experian) $29.95
Family Three bureaus (Experian, Equifax, and TransUnion) $34.95

IDShield says the plans otherwise provide the same features. The family plan may cost less per person when multiple eligible household members use it, but check the membership terms for the definition of family and dependent eligibility. The listed prices are from IDShield’s product page and FAQ.

What does the subscription include?

Identity and credit alerts

IDShield advertises monitoring for Social Security numbers, identity threats, dark web findings, social media, public records, children, court records, address changes, medical data, reputation, and sex-offender records. Credit features include bureau monitoring, monthly score tracking, credit and inquiry alerts, financial-threshold account monitoring, payday-loan and high-risk-application monitoring, and help with freezes or fraud alerts. These are provider-described features; the list does not independently establish how accurately or quickly IDShield detects a particular event.

Privacy and security tools

The plans also advertise a VPN, password manager, credential monitoring, data-breach notifications, privacy management, encryption, lost-device protection, and malware and ransomware protection. Consider whether you will use these tools and whether you already have comparable services before treating them as added value.

Some monitoring requires setup

IDShield says monitoring begins after activation. Its onboarding instructions ask members to provide additional banking and Social Security account information to enable the associated monitoring functions. Do not assume every alert category is fully configured automatically. The provider describes these features on its product page and individual plan page.

What help does IDShield offer after identity theft?

IDShield advertises dedicated licensed private investigators, 24/7 emergency assistance, consultations, restoration verification, and guaranteed identity theft restoration. Its FAQ says that once identity theft is confirmed, the restoration process reviews all three national credit bureau reports and disputes fraudulent information found there—even if the member selected one-bureau monitoring. That describes IDShield’s stated process; it does not guarantee a particular dispute outcome. The process is detailed in the official FAQ.

What does the $3 million protection claim mean?

IDShield advertises up to $3 million in reimbursement for certain unrecovered costs. The company says its Identity Fraud Protection Plan is underwritten and administered by American Bankers Insurance Company of Florida, an Assurant company, and states that PPLSI is not an insurance carrier. The maximum is not an unconditional cash benefit: it applies to certain expenses, losses, and legal costs for covered identity fraud events.

Before buying, review the governing plan for covered-event definitions, limits, exclusions, geography, and state-specific availability. The product page and homepage provide the company’s summary, but the applicable plan terms determine coverage.

Who is most likely to find IDShield worthwhile?

It may fit you if…

  • You want ongoing identity alerts and hands-on restoration help if fraud is confirmed.
  • You value three-bureau credit monitoring or want a plan for eligible household members.
  • You expect to use the bundled privacy and security tools.
  • You are willing to complete setup for monitoring that depends on additional account information.

It may not be a good fit if…

  • You only want a free credit report or score.
  • Your bank or another service already provides monitoring you consider comparable.
  • You chiefly want reimbursement for losses but are not prepared to review the plan’s coverage conditions.
  • You are unlikely to configure or use the monitoring and digital-security features.

A monitoring service can alert you to activity and assist with response; it should not be treated as a guarantee that identity theft will be prevented.

What should you check before signing up or cancelling?

  • Choose the bureau coverage deliberately: one bureau is Experian; three-bureau monitoring adds Equifax and TransUnion.
  • Review disclosures: IDShield’s marketing pages require acceptance of terms and privacy disclosures and authorize access to credit profiles for display, identity verification, and bureau monitoring. Read these before consenting.
  • Confirm applicable terms: availability and plan terms can vary by region. Check the documents that apply to your location and membership.
  • Keep cancellation records: IDShield says cancellation requires written notice under the instructions for the particular membership, with payment remaining active until written notice is received. Follow your membership’s instructions and retain confirmation. See the information and cancellation page.
