After trying the HP Googlebook 14 and Dell XPS Googlebook, both powered by Snapdragon X Elite, Android Central’s Derrek Lee said he was seriously considering switching from Windows. That is an intriguing first impression, not a long-term verdict: he handled demo units, rather than testing either laptop over time. Whether Googlebook makes sense for you depends most on your Android phone, the apps you rely on, and which model you choose.
What Googlebook is—and how it differs from Chromebook
Google describes Googlebook as a premium laptop category that brings together Android and ChromeOS technology, with Android phone integration. Chromebooks remain ChromeOS laptops positioned for simpler everyday use. Google’s launch does not establish a more specific technical description of Googlebook’s operating-system architecture, so it is safer to think of it as a new category and experience rather than assume it is simply a Chromebook with a different name.

Google says existing Chromebooks are not being discontinued and do not need to be replaced. Its stated 10-year automatic update commitment for Chromebooks remains in place. (Google’s Googlebook FAQ)

What Lee tried: HP Googlebook 14 and Dell XPS Googlebook
Lee’s September 26, 2026 hands-on covered two Snapdragon X Elite demo laptops. He reported that both had 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of storage, along with fingerprint sensors and Google’s Glowbar. He found the Glowbar’s functions somewhat limited at the time. These are observations from brief time with the devices, not results from a controlled comparison.

The display descriptions are Lee’s preview observations, not a formal side-by-side panel test. The prices are snapshots and may change or differ by region. (Android Central hands-on; Google Store US Dell listing)
Google’s FAQ names Acer, ASUS, HP, and Lenovo in its first-wave manufacturer list and identifies Intel Core Ultra 5 and Qualcomm Snapdragon X Elite processor families. The US Google Store separately lists the Dell XPS Googlebook. Those lists have different scopes; neither should be treated as a definitive worldwide roster. (Google’s Googlebook FAQ)
Why the Android phone connection could matter
Google’s central pitch is continuity between an Android phone and the laptop: start a task on the phone and continue it on Googlebook, view phone apps on the laptop, and access phone files without transferring them separately. The Google Store says Android phone compatibility requires Android 17 or later; some features may also require current software on both devices. Check the current requirements and feature availability for your phone before buying. (Google Store laptop category)

This makes Googlebook more compelling to someone already invested in Android than to a buyer who does not use an Android phone. The integration is a platform benefit, not proof that every phone app will behave like a native desktop application.
Check your essential apps before switching
Google says Googlebook supports Android apps from Google Play and names apps including Adobe Premiere, Photoshop, BandLab, and Netflix. It also says Microsoft 365 can open, edit, download, and save Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files. Availability varies, and some Microsoft 365 functionality may require a subscription. (Google’s Googlebook FAQ)
App availability is not the same as guaranteed performance on every model. Tom’s Hardware reported Google’s statement that most Android apps run smoothly, while some may perform less well on Intel models than on Qualcomm models. That is a reason to verify your particular apps on the exact processor configuration—not evidence that Intel Googlebooks cannot run Android apps. (Tom’s Hardware report)

Price and battery claims need context
The launch hands-on put the HP at $1,299 and the Dell at $999. Google Store US listed the Dell at $999 with 16 GB RAM and 512 GB storage on October 7, 2026. Treat both prices as time- and region-sensitive rather than guaranteed current offers.
Battery figures are manufacturer claims with different contexts, not results from Lee’s brief hands-on or an independent comparison. Google Store says the Dell can last up to 18 hours, without giving test details in the accessed product text. Dell specifies up to 16 hours of Netflix streaming for a test configuration with Snapdragon X Elite, a 2.5K LCD, 16 GB RAM, and a 512 GB SSD. Because the conditions differ, the figures do not establish which laptop lasts longer in ordinary use. (Google Store US Dell listing; Dell Technologies launch release)
Independent reader supportYour contribution helps us test, update, and keep practical guides available for everyone. So, is switching from Windows worth considering?
Lee’s reaction captures Googlebook’s appeal, but it is personal and provisional. His account describes time with demo devices, not extended ownership; it cannot establish long-term battery life, reliability, sustained performance, or compatibility with your software. The most practical reasons to consider a switch are a strong Android phone connection and confidence that your important apps work on the specific model you plan to buy.

If you depend on a Windows program with no suitable web or Android alternative, do not assume Googlebook will run it just because the laptop uses a Snapdragon processor. If your work is covered by browser-based tools, Google Play apps, and Microsoft 365 workflows, compare the two launch models on display preference, price, configuration, and your own app checks. If you already own a Chromebook, Google says there is no need to migrate simply because Googlebook has launched. (Google’s Googlebook FAQ)
Lee disclosed that Qualcomm provided travel and lodging for the Snapdragon Summit, with no additional compensation or prepublication input. (Android Central hands-on)
