You can sample Linux distributions in a browser before deciding whether to install one. DistroSea currently lists options such as Ubuntu, Fedora Linux, Debian, Linux Mint, Arch Linux, and openSUSE. The browser route is useful for an initial look, but it is not the same as running Linux on your own computer.
What a browser-based Linux trial lets you do
DistroSea describes its service as a way to test Linux distributions online. A French public digital-resource listing describes the trials as online virtual machines: you access a distribution through a browser without installing it or booting a live system on your computer. That makes it a convenient way to look around several desktops before choosing what to explore more seriously.

The catalog is not a fixed set of twelve. It currently names Ubuntu, Fedora Linux, Debian, Linux Mint, Arch Linux, openSUSE, and other distributions; availability may change. See the DistroSea catalog.

What the preview cannot tell you
A remote browser session does not establish how a distribution will behave on your hardware. It cannot serve as a reliable test of your computer’s speed, peripherals, graphics, wireless connection, or everyday local workflow. Responsiveness in a browser session is also not a fair speed comparison between distributions installed on the same machine.

- Intel Core i5-1335U Processor (12M Cache, 12 Threads, up to 4.6 GHz) - 256GB Solid State Drive - 16GB DDR4 SDRAM
- 15.6" FHD (1920x1080) Non-Touch Anti-Glare Display - Intel UHD 620 Integrated Graphics - Stereo Speakers
- 720p HD Webcam with Privacy Shutter. Integrated Microphone - Intel Dual Band Wireless-AC (2x2) 8265, Bluetooth Version 4.2
- I/O Ports: 2x USB 3.0, 1x USB 3.1 Type-C 3.1, Headphone/Mic Combo Port, 4-in-1 Card Reader, HDMI, Kensington Mini-Lock Slot

Use the online trial to notice things such as desktop layout, where settings and common apps appear, and whether the interface feels understandable. Treat those as an initial orientation, not a verdict about which distribution is fastest, easiest, or most compatible. The catalog alone does not establish a winner.
When to try Linux on your own computer
If you want to check how a system works with your actual hardware, a Live USB is a separate next step. Fedora’s official download page says its Live version can boot and be tried without making permanent changes to the computer. Its current Fedora Workstation 44 page, dated April 28, 2026, states: “All you need is a 4GB USB flash drive and the Fedora Media Writer utility.” That requirement is specific to Fedora’s published instructions, not a universal USB-size rule for every distribution. Read the Fedora Workstation download instructions before creating a drive.
