It is a 7-Zip derivative designed for modern Windows, and its feature list includes Windows 11 context-menu support, Fluent Design, Mica, and dark mode. That makes it a documented fit for the job—not proof that it is better for every user or identical to 7-Zip in every behavior.
Why NanaZip is the closest fit for a modern 7-Zip experience
NanaZip describes itself as “The 7-Zip derivative intended for the modern Windows experience.” Its published features include a Windows 11 context menu, Fluent Design, Mica, and dark mode. If you want to keep close to the familiar 7-Zip foundation while using an archiver designed around Windows 11, those are the reasons to start with NanaZip. NanaZip project features

NanaZip also lists Smart Extraction and support for formats and file types beyond 7-Zip, including Zstandard, WASM, Electron ASAR, and .NET Single File Bundle. Check the project’s current format documentation for any format-specific requirements; a longer feature list does not establish that every format works identically.

Be cautious about choosing a portable build just for convenience: NanaZip describes its GitHub portable releases as experimental, says they may lack File Manager, and does not support those versions. The install route therefore affects which features and support you can expect. NanaZip release information
What to expect from Windows 11’s built-in archive support
Windows 11 version 24H2 supports ZIP, RAR, 7z, and TAR archives, according to Microsoft. That built-in support does not cover every dedicated-archiver workflow: Microsoft says Windows itself does not support operations on encrypted archive files and points users to non-Microsoft applications for that need. If you need to create or open encrypted archives, keep a compatible third-party app installed and verify that it supports the archive’s format and encryption method. The Windows 11 version matters here: the stated built-in support applies to version 24H2.

PeaZip is worth considering if you want one archive manager for Windows, macOS, and Linux, or need portable packages and broad extraction coverage. Its project describes the same full-featured GUI across those systems and advertises support for opening more than 200 archive types. That count is PeaZip’s own capability claim, and individual formats can have their own caveats. PeaZip features

PeaZip documents full read-and-write support for 7z archives and AES-256 encryption. It also warns that optional newer compression algorithms may produce 7z archives that standard 7-Zip cannot open. If sharing files with people using ordinary 7-Zip matters, choose a conventional codec such as LZMA2 rather than an optional newer one. PeaZip 7z format documentation

Check NanaZip’s Windows requirements and Explorer integration
For NanaZip 6.0 and later, the project lists Windows 10 version 2004 (Build 19041) or later, or Windows Server 2022 (Build 20348) or later, on x64 or ARM64. These requirements are release-specific, so confirm the current release notes if you are using a different version. NanaZip repository and release notes

Which one should you choose?
For a 7-Zip alternative for Windows 11, start with NanaZip if the interface and Explorer integration are what you want to change. Choose PeaZip instead if cross-platform use, portable deployment, or broad archive extraction matters more. Neither the published feature lists nor format counts establish which app is faster or achieves better compression: no independent speed or compression comparison is available here.
