Oluwaniyi Raji’s answer to Google Calendar’s task limitations was to keep Calendar for events and use Tasks.org as a more organized home for tasks. His account, published by Android Police and republished by Yahoo Tech, describes why the split worked for him—and where syncing tasks back to Google comes with trade-offs.
Why he moved tasks out of Google Calendar
Raji says he had kept tasks alongside events in Google Calendar for two years. After missing a work deadline on a busy day, he decided he needed more than a single shared view of appointments and to-dos. In his experience, deadline tasks appeared in an all-day row alongside items such as birthdays, and a 9 a.m. due-date notification was easy to miss when the day was busy. Those are his observations, not a claim that every Calendar user will have the same problem.

He did not describe wanting to replace Calendar altogether. His goal was to retain it for events while giving tasks a richer organizational structure. Google’s own instructions document creating tasks from Workspace products including Calendar and Gmail, as well as managing tasks in the Google Tasks app and creating or managing them in Calendar on Android: Google Tasks help and Google Calendar help for Android.
What Tasks.org added to his workflow
Raji says Tasks.org gave him nested subtasks, tags, custom filters, and color-coded priorities. These features answer a particular organizational need: not just recording what must be done, but gathering related work into views and making urgency easier to see.

- Subtasks: He reports that Tasks.org lets him nest subtasks as deeply as needed, useful when a larger task needs several layers of breakdown.
- Tags and filters: Tags such as “morning” or “errands” can be used with custom filters to pull matching tasks into a focused list.
- Priorities: Color-coded priority levels help distinguish important deadlines from routine tasks in his view.
In the article, Raji summed up the appeal this way: “I only needed a better home for my tasks, and Tasks.org became that home.” That is a personal account of fit, not a universal verdict on Google Tasks or other task apps.
What happens when Tasks.org syncs with Google Tasks
Raji reports connecting Tasks.org to Google Tasks and seeing his existing lists appear. He also says Tasks.org can sync with Microsoft To Do, CalDAV servers, DAVx5, and EteSync. These compatibility details are reported in his article and are not independent testing of current integrations.

The important limitation in his account is that richer task details did not carry through Google Tasks sync. He says priorities, tags, due times, reminders, and recurrence were not preserved, while subtasks were flattened to one level on Google’s side. If those details are central to your system, a task can look different depending on which app or service you use to view it. Treat the sync behavior as article-reported rather than a guarantee about every current version or configuration.
Which setup makes sense for you?
- Consider a separate task app if you want deeper task hierarchies, tags and filtered views, or visually distinct priorities, and are comfortable keeping events in Calendar while managing tasks elsewhere.
- Keep tasks closely tied to Calendar if seeing tasks in the same workflow as appointments matters more than advanced task organization. Raji’s article notes that apps such as TickTick may suit readers seeking tighter Google Calendar integration; it does not establish a universal winner.
- Check sync needs before switching if you rely on reminders, recurrence, due times, tags, priorities, or nested subtasks. The details you enter in one app may not all appear in a connected service.
Price and app-version caveats
At the time Raji’s 2026 article was published, he reported Tasks.org Cloud at $2.99 per month or $29.99 per year, and chose Google Tasks sync instead. He also reported that the Google Play version gated some features behind a subscription, while the F-Droid version was free with features unlocked.
