Its creator says the simulated counterpart may push back, interrupt, or become defensive. That makes it a rehearsal tool—not a way to predict how your actual boss, partner, or teammate will respond.
What cosskill is designed to do
Neo xia introduced cosskill in a September 22, 2026 DEV Community post as a way to rehearse conversations people often put off, including negotiating a raise, giving critical feedback, ending a relationship, and quitting gracefully. The aim is to practice the exchange before having it, with an AI persona responding as the other party.

The creator’s central design rationale is that practice should include resistance rather than automatic agreement. In the post’s description, the AI can push back, interrupt, or become defensive. Those are product claims from its builder, not independently tested behavior or proof that users communicate better in real situations. Read neo xia’s September 22, 2026 post.
How a practice session works
- Choose the situation and persona. Start with the conversation you want to prepare for, then select an AI counterpart.
- Make your case. Type or speak your side of the conversation while the persona responds.
- Review what happened. Afterward, the simulator provides an evaluation of what landed and what did not.
- Rewind and retry. Return to a difficult moment and test a different way of responding.
The value of the loop, as the builder presents it, is the chance to work on a specific moment instead of treating one run-through as final. The post’s examples of useful feedback include noticing when an apology weakens an ask, when someone states a number and then keeps talking, or when they defuse a personal attack without giving up their point. These are illustrative examples, not verified evaluation criteria.

How to rehearse a difficult conversation
Neo xia recommends a compact practice routine. Treat it as the creator’s suggested method, not an experimentally validated formula:
- Name the conversation. Choose one concrete situation, such as asking for a raise or delivering negative feedback.
- Write the ask in one sentence. Decide what you want the other person to understand or do.
- Pick a persona likely to push back. Practice against resistance rather than relying on an agreeable exchange.
- Rewind when you lose the thread. Return to the point where the conversation went sideways and try a different response.
- Change one thing and repeat. Use the evaluation to choose one adjustment for the next attempt.
Keeping the practice focused on one ask and one adjustment can make the rehearsal easier to evaluate for yourself. It cannot establish how the real conversation will go.

Persona counts and access terms depend on the source date
The figures in the launch-era post and the official homepage are not the same snapshot. The post, published September 22, 2026, reported 20 personas and said the service included a mission mode with live meters. The homepage, accessed October 5, 2026, lists 33 personas and 30 conversation guides, and describes goal-oriented missions with live meters. These counts are time-sensitive, not numbers to combine into a single figure. The homepage gives examples including salary negotiation with a skeptical hiring manager, difficult feedback to a defensive direct report, an angry enterprise customer, and setting a boundary with a parent. See cosskill’s homepage.
The September 22 post also reported three messages without an account and ten after signing in. It listed Pro at $12.90 per month or $129 per year for unlimited use. Those are the builder’s published terms in that post, not independently confirmed current checkout prices; check the service directly for current availability and pricing.

What the simulator cannot tell you
An AI roleplay counterpart is not the person you are preparing to speak with. The creator explicitly cautions that it cannot predict how a specific manager, partner, or teammate will react, and says the tool should not replace legal, medical, or financial advice. Use it to explore wording and responses, not to make consequential decisions on the assumption that a simulated reaction is a forecast.
The cited materials are a builder-authored post and the product homepage. They do not provide independent testing, controlled evidence of real-world improvement, or validation of the simulator’s evaluations. There is no efficacy statistic established by those sources.
