There is a strong case for optimism about Nintendo in 2027: the company’s published schedule includes several major franchises, and a September 2026 Nintendo Direct added more Switch 2 games with specific dates or broad release windows. The excitement is real, but so is the uncertainty: not every game has a firm date, and Nintendo’s business figures are forecasts rather than results.
Why 2027 looks promising for Nintendo
The clearest reason to look forward to 2027 is the range of announced games. Nintendo’s May 2026 investor schedule lists Yoshi and the Mysterious Book, Star Fox and Splatoon Raiders for 2026–2027, alongside Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Pokémon Winds and Pokémon Waves with 2027 timing. Nintendo UK’s September 9 Direct page adds Metroid Ravenous, Kirby and the World Beyond and Persona 4 Revival to the Switch 2 pipeline.

That is a mix of familiar series and different genres, with both Nintendo-planned releases and games from outside publishers. It is better described as a promising Switch 2 release pipeline than as a Nintendo-developed lineup: the Direct page includes third-party titles, and Persona 4 Revival should not be mistaken for a Nintendo-developed game.
What Nintendo games are coming in 2027?
The announcements vary in certainty. Some have a dated launch, while others are listed only for a year or a broad season. The dates and wording below reflect the cited official schedule and Nintendo UK page as of October 3, 2026.

The May investor schedule and September Direct page cover different announcement moments, so they should not be treated as a single complete or continuously updated calendar. Nintendo’s official launch schedule also says that launch dates and titles are subject to change.
Will 2027 be a big year for Nintendo Switch 2?
Nintendo’s own outlook supports the idea of a year focused on sustaining the console’s early momentum, rather than promising an acceleration. In its May 8, 2026 results release, the company said Switch 2 had a good start after its June 2025 launch and that it aimed to maintain hardware momentum by delivering software to a wide range of consumers. That makes the announced slate relevant to the company’s strategy, though it does not guarantee that every game will arrive on schedule or drive a particular level of sales.

Nintendo forecast 16.50 million Switch 2 hardware units for FY2027, compared with 19.86 million reported for FY2026. Nintendo attributed the forecast year-on-year decline to strong launch-year sales and price revisions, while describing second-year adoption as solid. FY2027 ends March 31, 2027, so these figures cover a fiscal year, not calendar 2027.

Nintendo’s May 2026 forecast for FY2027 was 2,050.0 billion yen in net sales, 370.0 billion yen in operating profit and 310.0 billion yen in profit attributable to owners of parent. These are company forecasts, not realized results, and they do not by themselves show how well any individual game will perform. The optimistic case for the year rests more directly on the breadth of the announced slate and Nintendo’s stated plan to support Switch 2 with a continuing flow of software.

Why the outlook is encouraging, not certain
- Several named franchises are on Nintendo’s schedule for 2027, but some have only a year-level window.
- The dated announcements on Nintendo UK’s Direct page are regional listings; a local store or Nintendo announcement is the better guide for availability in another region.
- The pipeline includes external releases as well as Nintendo-planned titles, so its breadth should not be confused with a wholly first-party slate.
- Nintendo explicitly warns that titles and launch dates can change.
- Company sales, profit and hardware figures quoted here are forecasts for a fiscal year, not evidence of calendar-year outcomes.
Nintendo’s investor-relations page listed November 5, 2026, for the six-month FY2027 earnings release. Results or schedule updates after October 3 could materially change the business outlook or the release calendar.
