Hytale uses station-gated crafting. You begin by hand-crafting crude equipment, then build a basic Workbench that unlocks specialist stations for smelting, leather, farming, combat gear, cooking, construction, furniture, salvage, alchemy and arcane travel. Build the Workbench first, followed by a Furnace, Tanning Rack and Farmer’s Workbench; add the copper combat and cooking stations next, then upgrade into the Tier 2 specialist benches.

This guide explains what every currently documented station does, how the upgrade and storage systems work, which stations are normal survival blocks, and why file entries such as Forge and Loom should not be treated as standard recipes.

How Hytale’s crafting system works
Crafting has two layers. Hand crafting covers the first crude tools and the earliest station components. Once you place the basic Workbench, the game moves most useful recipes into dedicated benches. Each bench is a block or table with its own recipe catalogue; the official CraftingBench schema requires the type constant Crafting.
This division matters because finding a recipe is not enough: you must have the correct station, the necessary Workbench progression, and (for processing stations) the right input and fuel. A Furnace, for example, does not create an ingot merely because ore is present; fuel must be loaded and the smelting process started.

What to build first
The following order follows the progression documented by current 2026 workstation guides. It minimizes backtracking while opening the resource chains that feed later stations.
- Hand craft the basics. Make crude tools and the first station materials. This stage is deliberately short; do not spend rare resources trying to replace the Workbench with hand recipes.
- Place the basic Workbench. It is the central survival station and also produces many of the specialist benches. It covers starter tools, station construction, tinkering, backpack upgrades, repair kits, traps and rails.
- Add the first three stations. Build a Furnace for ore, a Tanning Rack for hides and a Farmer’s Workbench for seeds, crop tools and early farming progression.
- Use your first copper for combat and food. The Blacksmith’s Anvil makes weapons, the Armorer’s Workbench makes protective gear, and the Chef’s Stove turns ingredients into prepared and baked dishes.
- Move to the Tier 2 specialist benches. The Furniture Workbench, Salvager’s Workbench, Alchemist’s Workbench and Arcanist’s Workbench open construction interiors, material recovery, consumables and portal-related recipes.
Keep the stations together in a workshop. Their automatic chest access makes a compact layout more useful than scattered benches, especially once several queues are running.

What each station is for
Workbench: the hub
The Workbench is more than a tool table. It creates later stations and handles survival infrastructure: backpack expansions, repair kits, traps, rails and tinkering recipes sit alongside ordinary tools. Upgrade it before stockpiling specialist materials; the higher tier adds recipes and can shorten processing time.
Furnace and Tanning Rack: the first processing chain
Put mined ore into the Furnace, load an appropriate fuel and start the queue to receive ingots. The Tanning Rack performs the parallel animal-resource conversion, turning hides into their matching leather. These two stations establish the metal and leather supplies consumed by the combat, armor and building branches.

Farmer’s Workbench: crops and life essence
Use it for seed bags, farming tools, saplings and Essence of Life. Its tier progression is tied to crop progression rather than simply mirroring the Workbench. Update 4 removed Farmer’s Workbench Tiers 9 and 10, so older guides that show those levels are out of date.

Blacksmith’s Anvil and Armorer’s Workbench: combat equipment
The Anvil is the weapon bench: swords, maces, battleaxes, daggers and bows are its core families. The Armorer’s Workbench is the defensive counterpart for helmets, chest pieces, gloves, legs and shields. Building both prevents a common bottleneck in which ingots are available but only one side of a gear set can be made.
Chef’s Stove: prepared food
The Stove converts gathered ingredients into prepared and baked dishes. It is the food-specialist station, not a replacement for the Farmer’s Workbench: farming supplies ingredients, while the Stove performs the cooking recipes.
Builder’s and Furniture Workbenches: construction
The Builder’s Workbench supplies block variants. Update 4 made its crafting instant and expanded conversion so full rock, wood and metal blocks can be made into half slabs and stairs. The Furniture Workbench handles the interior layer—storage, beds, lighting, decorations, textiles and other furniture pieces. OrbisHytale counted 153 Furniture Workbench recipes in 2026, making it a substantial branch rather than a small cosmetic add-on.
Salvager’s Workbench: recover before discarding
Feed eligible equipment to the Salvager to recover materials, and use it for the selected block-processing recipes. This is useful when an item has become obsolete but its components are still needed for another station or upgrade. Eligibility is recipe-specific; an item that looks recyclable is not automatically accepted.

Alchemist’s Workbench: consumables and transformation
The Alchemist’s Workbench covers potions, bombs, morph potions, special seeds and fertilizer. Update 4 added Alchemist’s Workbench Tiers 3, 4 and 5, so the current progression extends beyond the lower tiers shown in launch-era references.
Arcanist’s Workbench: portals and magical utility
Use the Arcanist’s Workbench for teleporters, gateways, portal fragments, totems and selected magic staffs. These recipes are utility and traversal focused; they are not substitutes for the Anvil’s ordinary weapons or the Alchemist’s consumables.
How Workbench tiers and upgrades affect production
An upgrade can do two different things: expose additional recipes or improve the time required to process a queue. OrbisHytale’s 2026 summary reports Workbench speed bonuses of 15% at Tier 2 and 30% at Tier 3. Those percentages describe the Workbench’s reported speed bonuses, not a universal reduction for every specialist station.

Current guides from Hytale Calculator and OrbisHytale report that a bench can draw ingredients from as many as 100 chests within 14 blocks horizontally and 6 blocks vertically. Inventory items are used first, then nearby chest contents. A practical workshop therefore keeps personal inventory clear and places labeled storage inside that radius.

Update 4 changed processing behavior in several important ways:
- Workbenches continue processing when their chunks are unloaded. The Hytale Team stated in the March 26, 2026 Update 4 notes: “Workbenches will now continue processing items even if their chunks are unloaded.”
- Processing resumes after a full output slot is emptied, preventing a blocked output from permanently stopping the queue.
- Timing uses world-game time. The interface warns you when world time is stopped, so a paused world should not be mistaken for a broken station.
- Queued item counts are shown, and item rarity is displayed in the interface.
These changes make a stocked, compact workshop viable even when you travel away, but they do not remove input, fuel or output-space requirements.
Do these 3 things before closing this tab:
1Fix the driver behind crashes, sound loss and screen glitches2Repair Windows errors before they cause bigger problems3Scan for outdated or missing drivers - takes under a minuteMaterial bottlenecks and workshop planning
- Metal bottleneck: Ore must pass through a fueled Furnace before the ingots can feed copper-era weapons, armor and cooking infrastructure.
- Leather bottleneck: Hides need the Tanning Rack, so hunting without reserving rack capacity delays armor and other leather recipes.
- Crop bottleneck: The Farmer’s Workbench follows crop progression; keep seed and sapling production moving instead of waiting until you need a high-tier ingredient.
- Construction bottleneck: Builder’s variants and Furniture recipes consume large volumes of processed materials. Place storage within the chest-access radius before starting a large build.
- Queue bottleneck: A full output slot stops progress until space is available. Empty outputs periodically, especially when several stations share one storage wall.
Because exact recipe costs are patch-sensitive, reserve a buffer of ore, hides, crops and common building materials rather than mining to a single old checklist.
Forge, Loom and the Heart of Orbis: what is not a normal station
Forge and Loom
OrbisHytale’s September 2026 summary reports Forge and Loom entries in the game files, but flags them as developer items. There is no confirmed normal-world survival recipe in the cited material. Do not plan a progression route around them or present them as craftable alternatives to the Anvil, Armorer’s Workbench or Furniture Workbench unless a later official update changes their status.
Heart of Orbis
The Heart of Orbis is not craftable. It is a progression statue associated with Memories, so it should not be listed alongside the production benches or treated as a missing recipe.
Troubleshooting a station that will not craft
- Check the station type. Weapons belong at the Anvil, armor at the Armorer, food at the Stove, and so on. A Workbench recipe search cannot substitute for the specialist station.
- Check progression. Confirm that the central Workbench and the relevant specialist tier have been built or upgraded; a locked recipe is different from a missing ingredient.
- Check inputs and fuel. Furnace queues require fuel and a manual start. Other stations still need every listed ingredient.
- Check chest distance. Move storage to within 14 horizontal and 6 vertical blocks, or place the ingredients directly in the station’s inventory.
- Check output space and world time. Empty a full output slot and look for the stopped-world warning. Update 4’s queue improvements cannot process into a blocked output or while world time is paused.
- Check the patch. Tier ladders and recipe costs change. In particular, compare your version with Update 4’s Alchemist and Farmer changes before following an older guide.
A practical build sequence
For a new settlement, place the Workbench at the center, with Furnace and Tanning Rack close enough to a shared storage wall. Add the Farmer’s Workbench where crops and saplings are accessible, then put the Anvil, Armorer and Chef’s Stove beside the same chest network. Once copper and food production are stable, expand with Builder’s, Furniture, Salvager’s, Alchemist’s and Arcanist’s stations. Upgrade the central Workbench when a recipe gate or queue-speed gain justifies the materials, and upgrade specialist benches according to the activity you actually perform.

This layout follows Hytale’s intended dependency chain: hand crafting starts survival, the Workbench unlocks production, processing stations create the materials, and specialist benches turn those materials into equipment, food, buildings and magical travel.
