The HyperX OMEN 16 VALORANT Edition is a premium 16-inch gaming laptop whose standout feature is its game-inspired design—not a special in-game advantage. Tom’s Guide found its reviewed 32GB US configuration enjoyable for VALORANT and measured the bright 240Hz display at 525 nits. The trade-offs include a high price, tight keyboard, short battery life, fan noise that varies by game, and a tested weight of 5.5 pounds. Specifications vary by region and SKU, so check the exact configuration before buying.
What is the HyperX OMEN 16 VALORANT Edition?
HP announced the limited-edition laptop on May 26, 2026, as a collaboration with Riot Games. Its VALORANT-inspired colors, keyboard accents, and hidden Easter eggs distinguish it from the standard design. HP described configurations reaching up to a Ryzen 9 9955HX3D processor, an RTX 5070 with 12GB GDDR7, and a 2.5K, 240Hz, 3ms display; those are maximum configuration claims, not specifications shared by every version. HP’s announcement quoted gaming-solutions executive Josephine Tan describing the hidden details as touches for fans.

Its appeal therefore depends partly on whether you value the themed finish. The available evidence does not suggest that the edition gives players a technical advantage in VALORANT.

The US review’s $3,049 spec-table price and HP’s $3,049.99 US preorder price are figures from different sources and contexts; neither establishes today’s retail price. The UK store showed its SKU in stock at the listed price when accessed, but stock and price can change. The UK listing also specifies Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, an 83Wh battery, and a 280W adapter. Tom’s Guide lists Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, three USB-A ports, one USB-C, HDMI 2.1, a headphone jack, and Ethernet for its reviewed unit. See the UK product listing and Tom’s Guide review for their respective configurations.
How well does it run VALORANT?
Tom’s Guide reported that its Ryzen 9, RTX 5070, 32GB review unit handled VALORANT capably and felt enjoyable to play, including with settings raised. That is a reviewer’s experience, not a guaranteed frame rate. The review does not establish a VALORANT FPS figure, and results can vary with the game version, settings, resolution, and configuration.

- 【Bundle】Thunderobot 7 in-1 USB-C Hub — High-speed data transmission and stable expansion.
The 240Hz panel can refresh up to 240 times per second, but that ceiling is not a prediction of performance in every game. For context, Tom’s Guide’s 1080p tests of demanding games on its review unit recorded:
| Game and review settings | Tom’s Guide result |
|---|---|
| Assassin’s Creed: Shadows, Ultra High | 44 FPS |
| Black Myth: Wukong, Cinematic | 33 FPS |
| Cyberpunk 2077, review settings | 35 FPS |
These are review-specific results, not expected frame rates for VALORANT or every configuration. They illustrate why a high refresh-rate display and demanding games’ measured frame rates should not be conflated. Tom’s Guide reported that its review unit’s display was bright and measured 525 nits; HP’s UK specification instead rates that particular SKU’s panel at 500 nits.

What are the main drawbacks?
Price
The US launch preorder figure was $3,049.99 in HP’s May 26, 2026 announcement, while Tom’s Guide’s review spec table lists $3,049 for its unit. HyperX UK listed the specified UK SKU at £1,999 including VAT when accessed October 7, 2026. These are regional, dated references—not a current universal price. Confirm the live price and configuration in your country.
Keyboard comfort and portability
Tom’s Guide found the keyboard tight, which matters if you type or play for long sessions on the built-in keys. Its review unit weighed 5.5 pounds. The UK SKU’s official listing gives a different figure, 2.47kg, so use the exact regional listing when assessing what you will carry.

Battery life, noise, and heat
The reviewer characterized battery life as short and said the laptop became loud depending on the game; the review does not establish a universal runtime or noise level. In one Metro Exodus Enhanced Edition lab run, Tom’s Guide measured a peak underside temperature of 87.5 degrees. That single test is not a full thermal profile and should not be generalized to every game or workload.

Who should consider buying it?
- It may suit you if you want a high-end gaming laptop, value the VALORANT-themed design, and expect to play mostly near a power outlet. Tom’s Guide found VALORANT enjoyable on its tested configuration.
- Look more carefully at alternatives if keyboard comfort, long unplugged sessions, carrying weight, or price are top priorities.
- Compare configurations, not just model names if you are choosing among gaming laptops. Check the CPU, GPU and VRAM, system RAM, display resolution and refresh rate, and comparable game tests. An RTX 5070 label alone does not establish equal performance.
What to check before ordering
- Confirm the country and complete SKU on the retailer or manufacturer listing.
- Check the CPU, GPU memory, and system RAM. For example, the UK SKU above has 8GB GPU memory and 16GB system RAM, unlike the US review unit’s 32GB RAM.
- Verify the panel’s resolution, refresh rate, and stated brightness for that SKU.
- Compare the current regional price and stock status; the launch and accessed listing prices above are dated references.
- If comparing game performance, match game, settings, resolution, and test method rather than relying on a shared GPU name.
