Hyperliquid Bridge Security Audits: What the Legacy Arbitrum Reports Found

Zellic and Cyfrin reviewed different historical Hyperliquid Solidity bridge snapshots. Here are their reported withdrawal, reentrancy, signature, and validator findings—and the limits of what those audits establish about current deployments.

The published Hyperliquid bridge audits cover historical Solidity contracts on Arbitrum—not every Hyperliquid transfer route or the current state of a deployed bridge. Zellic reported a nested reentrancy-guard bug that blocked withdrawal finalization in its reviewed snapshot, plus a pending-operation concern; Cyfrin documented separate signature-validation and validator-set issues. The reports record fixes or resolutions for some findings, but do not establish which code or administrative settings are live now.

Which Hyperliquid bridge did the audits examine?

“Hyperliquid bridge” can mean different systems. Hyperliquid’s audit index identifies the Zellic assessment as covering the legacy bridge contract. Zellic reviewed the Solidity contracts Bridge2 and Signature on Arbitrum at repository commit 43b5267c58778e5e24640c9abac06cb608d63c40. Cyfrin’s earlier review covered Bridge.sol and Signature.sol at commit e0aff46. These are distinct code snapshots, so their findings should not be combined into a single tally of current vulnerabilities.

The reports are useful for understanding specific historical code and its risks. They do not verify the bytecode, validator roles, pause state, or remediation status of any particular present-day deployment.

What did Zellic find about withdrawals and pending actions?

Nested reentrancy guards blocked withdrawal finalization

Zellic found that batchedFinalizeWithdrawals calls the private finalizeWithdrawal function, while both functions use nonReentrant. Because the inner call enters a function with the same reentrancy guard while the outer function is still executing, finalization reverted in the reviewed snapshot. The practical consequence was that withdrawals could not be finalized through this path.

  • WEB3 & dAPP ACCESS VIA METAMASK — Connect to MetaMask and other browser extension wallets to manage NFTs, claim airdrops, and access dApps. A large screen and intuitive 4-button interface keep every transaction clearly visible before you sign.
  • SEAMLESS FIRMWARE UPDATES & 30-DAY MONEY-BACK GUARANTEE — Apply security updates without resetting your wallet or migrating funds. Backed by Amazon's 30-day money-back guarantee — your purchase is risk-free.

Zellic classified this as high impact. Its report records that contributors acknowledged the issue and implemented a fix in commit e5b7e068. That report entry documents a code change; it does not by itself show that the change was deployed to every relevant bridge instance.

Paused contracts could retain disputed operations

The report also describes validator-approved operations that wait through a dispute period before processing. In the audited snapshot, if a malicious withdrawal was detected and the contract paused, the pending operation could not be removed. Zellic observed that it could remain pending and be processed after unpausing. The report records a remediation commit, 8c4a182a; it does not establish the state of a live deployment.

imKey Pro Crypto Hardware Wallet Secure Cold Crypto Wallet with Offline Storage CC EAL6+ Secure for Digital Assets Bitcoin Ethereum XRP NFTs & ERC20 Tokens
  • Top-Tier Security Chip, Bank-Grade Asset Protection: Equipped with an industry-leading Infineon CC EAL 6+ certified security chip, also certified by EMVCo, this chip is widely used in bank payment and identity verification systems. Your private keys are generated and stored entirely offline within the chip, ensuring they never touch the internet. This physically blocks remote hacker attacks and eliminates the risk of private key leakage, building an impregnable first line of defense for your digital assets.
  • What You See Is What You Sign, Hardware Button Protection: Every transaction requires manual confirmation via physical buttons on the imKey Pro's clear display. The device intuitively shows key transaction details like the amount and address, ensuring the data hasn't been tampered with during transmission—truly achieving "What You See Is What You Sign." It also features secure PIN code protection and a self-destruct mechanism after multiple incorrect attempts (the private key is wiped after 5 consecutive wrong entries), effectively preventing brute-force attacks even if the device is lost.
  • Comprehensive Multi-Chain Asset Support, Access the Web3 Ecosystem: Fully supports major mainnets and Layer 2 networks, including Bitcoin (BTC), Ethereum (ETH), LTC, ATOM, FIL, TRX and more. By adding custom RPCs, you can easily access all EVM-compatible chains like BSC, Polygon, and Avalanche. Furthermore, imKey Pro perfectly supports Layer 2 solutions such as zkSync and Arbitrum, as well as the display and storage of NFTs, meeting all your diverse on-chain needs.
  • Cold & Hot Wallet Separation, A Seamless Experience: Utilizing Bluetooth 4.1 wireless technology, it pairs seamlessly with the imToken App on your mobile phone or browser extension wallets on your PC without needing any cables. It combines the ultimate security of a cold wallet (offline private key storage) with the convenience of a hot wallet (online interaction). When a transaction is needed, you sign it offline with your imKey, and the app broadcasts it to the chain. This guarantees asset security without sacrificing the fluidity of use.
  • Extremely Thin and Light, A Portable Digital Vault: The device is smaller than a credit card, measuring just 2.3mm thick and weighing approximately 17g. Crafted with a zinc alloy body and a PC panel, it offers a premium feel and is extremely portable. The built-in 33mAh lithium-polymer battery provides a battery life of up to approximately four weeks on a single charge. The package includes the hardware wallet, a USB cable, and mnemonic cards, making it ready to use right out of the box—a secure and reliable gateway to the crypto world.

What did Cyfrin report about signatures and validator authority?

Cyfrin’s review covered an earlier snapshot and identified issues distinct from Zellic’s findings. Its summary marks two medium-severity findings resolved and a low-severity finding acknowledged, alongside informational observations.

  • Signature validation and validator-set updates: Cyfrin reported concerns involving bad signature recovery, signature malleability, and missing zero-address protection in updateValidatorSet. Its summary marks the finding resolved.
  • Initialization and power thresholds: A second medium-severity finding concerned validation of initialization and power-threshold values. Cyfrin also marks this finding resolved.
  • Low-severity item: The report summary marks one low finding acknowledged. Acknowledgment is not the same as evidence that a particular production deployment contains a fix.

These are findings in the assessed Solidity implementation, not proof that the same conditions are exploitable in code currently in use.

Cypherock X0 Crypto Wallet Set of 4 Cards – Cold Storage Hardware Wallet | 100% offline; Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP & 22,000+ coins and tokens; EAL6+ secure element; NFC self custody
  • LIMITED TO 2,000 UNITS WORLDWIDE: The Founder's Edition is the first and only production run of the X0 Founder's Edition at this scale. Each set ships with a printed note signed by Cypherock's founders. Once these are gone, this edition is not made again
  • YOUR KEY IS SPLIT ACROSS 4 CARDS, NOT COPIED: Your private key is generated inside the card's secure element and cryptographically split using Shamir's Secret Sharing across 4 cards and your phone. No single card holds a usable key, so a card that is lost or stolen on its own gives an attacker nothing. This is threshold security, not four copies of the same key
  • TAP TO SIGN, KEY NEVER LEAVES THE CHIP: Every transaction is signed inside the card's EAL6+ certified secure element, the same class of chip used in banking cards and passports. Your phone holds one encrypted fragment and runs the app. It never assembles or stores your private key. No cable, no battery, no computer
  • LOSE UP TO 3 CARDS AND STILL RECOVER: Any 2 cards restore your full wallet on any phone. Keep them in separate places, at home, at work, with family. There is no single point of failure. You stay in full control of your recovery phrase and can choose to view it in the app whenever you want, and BIP-39 compatibility means your wallet stays portable to other wallets if you ever move it
  • 22,900+ COINS AND TOKENS ACROSS 15 NETWORKS: Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Tron, Litecoin, Dogecoin and every major EVM chain including Polygon, BNB Smart Chain, Avalanche, Arbitrum, Optimism and Base, with full ERC-20 and TRC-20 support. Please note Solana, Stellar, Near, Starknet, Internet Computer, Sia and Canton are not supported. Free X0 app on iOS and Android

How do the two reports compare?

Report Contracts and snapshot Reported findings Recorded remediation status Scope and timing
Zellic, 2023 Bridge2 and Signature on Arbitrum; commit 43b5267c58778e5e24640c9abac06cb608d63c40 Six total: zero critical, one high-impact, one medium-impact, and four informational Report records acknowledged nested-guard issue and fix commit e5b7e068; pending-operation remediation commit 8c4a182a Three consultants and four person-days; primary review July 10–12, closing call August 8
Cyfrin, 2023 Bridge.sol and Signature.sol; commit e0aff46 Two medium findings marked resolved, one low finding marked acknowledged, and informational observations Summary marks the two medium findings resolved and the low finding acknowledged One-week review limited to security aspects of the Solidity implementation

The impact labels and summaries belong to each auditor’s own report and scope; they are not a shared severity scale or a present-day vulnerability count.

What did the audits exclude, and what can they establish?

Zellic’s report says the engagement excluded other Hyperliquid smart contracts, off-chain components including validators, front-end components, project infrastructure, and key custody. It also cautions that a time-boxed assessment has coverage limits. Cyfrin limited its review to security aspects of the Solidity implementation and excluded a Rust test file.

Are the audited contracts the same as HyperEVM transfers or bridges from other chains?

No such equivalence is established by these reports. Hyperliquid’s HyperEVM developer documentation describes HyperEVM as part of Hyperliquid execution, with HYPE as native gas, mainnet chain ID 999, and JSON-RPC endpoint https://rpc.hyperliquid.xyz/evm. Its HyperEVM onboarding guide describes transfers between HyperCore spot balances and HyperEVM, and separately lists third-party bridge or swap routes for bringing assets from other chains. Those descriptions are context for other flows, not evidence that those routes use the legacy Arbitrum contracts reviewed by Zellic and Cyfrin.

The onboarding guide warns that the HYPE transfer address works only for HYPE; sending other assets to it can result in their loss. Check the platform’s instructions for the exact asset and route before transferring.

How should a reader use these reports?

  • Match the report’s contract names, chain, and repository commit to the code or deployment you want to assess; a similar bridge label is not enough.
  • Read a reported fix as evidence about the reviewed code history, not confirmation that a fix is active on-chain.
  • For a present-day security judgment, verify the exact deployed bytecode and administrative configuration and account for components the audits excluded.
  • For asset movement, distinguish a legacy Arbitrum bridge contract from HyperCore-to-HyperEVM transfers and routes from other chains.
