AdGuard vs. uBlock Origin on Hulu: what the evidence shows
There is no supported winner for Hulu ad blocking. Neither official product documentation establishes that its extension reliably blocks Hulu’s in-stream ads. A Hulu-specific user issue report describes ads appearing in video and subtitles going out of sync during attempted blocking, but one report is an example of a possible failure—not a measure of how often it happens or proof that every setup behaves the same way. Browser and extension listings can change. Before installing, check the official browser store or project page and confirm the exact extension name. In particular, uBlock Origin Lite is a different extension from full uBlock Origin; do not assume that information about one applies to the other. AdGuard also explains that Chrome’s Manifest V3 transition changes extension rule handling and capabilities; people moving from a separate AdGuard Manifest V2 listing may need to reinstall custom rules and filters. Why Hulu ads may still play with a blocker
Hulu’s browser playback can behave differently across content and setups, and the available sources do not identify a universal technical reason for ads that get through. The Hulu issue report shows that in-video ads and subtitle synchronization have been concerns for at least one reported setup, but it does not establish prevalence or a dependable workaround.

How to troubleshoot broken Hulu playback
If playback or subtitles change after enabling a blocker, isolate the extension before changing several settings at once. The following are general troubleshooting suggestions based on vendor advice and the reported Hulu issue; they are not steps quoted from Hulu support.

- Disable any second content blocker. AdGuard says, “Keep only one ad blocker enabled in a browser.” The uBlock Origin project likewise advises against using it with another content blocker. AdGuard’s single-blocker guidance and the uBlock Origin README.
- Update the one extension you chose and its filters using that extension’s available update controls.
- Reload Hulu after changing the extension or its settings.
- Temporarily turn the blocker off on Hulu and check whether the same playback or subtitle symptom changes. This helps isolate a possible extension conflict; it does not establish that blocking is supported or guaranteed.
Hulu’s ad-free plans still have exceptions
Hulu’s subscriber agreement says tiers described as “no ads” or “ad-free” are generally free of commercial interruptions, subject to exceptions. It identifies content with rights or other limitations, as well as certain live or linear content, special events, and replays. The agreement also prohibits removing, modifying, disabling, blocking, obscuring, or impairing advertising connected with Hulu’s services. If fewer commercial interruptions are your priority, review Hulu’s current plan details directly. The cited agreement makes clear that “ad-free” should not be read as a promise that every type of content will be free of every ad; current plan prices are not established here.

Which should you choose?
- If you specifically want full uBlock Origin: Firefox is the clearer route in the project’s current guidance. Check the project’s official page for current browser distribution details.
- If you use Chrome: AdGuard documents a Manifest V3 Chrome Web Store extension. Confirm the current listing and understand that Chrome’s extension rules differ from the older Manifest V2 version.
- If your only criterion is which blocks more Hulu ads: the available evidence cannot rank them. Treat any claim that either one always blocks Hulu ads as unsupported.
- If you watch through a TV or mobile app: this browser-extension evidence does not establish compatibility with Hulu’s apps or other devices.
