Huawei says the China-market Mate 90 Pro Max can keep three numbers on standby at once, but “three active connections” would overstate what its published specifications promise. The phone stores up to four numbers—two physical nano-SIMs and two eSIM numbers—and Huawei’s three-number standby feature has a carrier condition: at least two of the three lines must be with the same operator in mainland China.
What “four SIMs, three standby” means
Huawei describes the feature as “四卡三待,” translated as “four cards, three on standby.” The four refers to stored numbers, not four physical SIM slots: the Mate 90 Pro Max has two nano-SIM slots and can store up to two eSIM numbers, according to Huawei’s published specifications. Huawei’s product page says three of those numbers can be on standby at the same time.

Standby means a line can be available for service; it does not establish that all three can carry calls or mobile data simultaneously. Huawei’s published material does not specify simultaneous call or data behavior across all three lines, so the supported claim is three numbers on standby—not three concurrent calls or data sessions.

Huawei states that at least two of the three numbers on standby must use the same mainland China operator. This is a specific condition in Huawei’s China-market product information, not a general guarantee that any three lines from any combination of carriers will work together.

eSIM use also depends on carrier support. Huawei advises customers to check local operator availability and service terms. Before relying on the feature, confirm that the exact handset variant and your carrier support the eSIM setup and line combination you need.

Market and software context
These details are for Huawei’s China-market Mate 90 Pro Max. Huawei’s Mate 90 series purchase guide identifies its applicable version as HarmonyOS 7.0 and lists October 1, 2026, as the formal sale date for the series. That information does not establish availability, exact network bands, carrier compatibility, pricing, or software configuration for other regions. Check the local model and carrier rather than assuming the China-market capability applies to an imported or regional variant.
