It added independent GPS and NFC to Huawei’s fitness-band line, with a China launch price of 399 yuan and first sales scheduled for December 12, 2019. The announcement is historical—not a new 2026 launch—and NFC functions depend on the model’s region and supported services.
What Huawei announced
The Band 4 Pro was positioned as the step-up model from the standard Band 4 and as a successor to the GPS-focused Band 3 Pro. Huawei’s launch materials listed a 0.95-inch AMOLED color touchscreen, independent GPS, NFC, 11 workout modes, heart-rate and sleep tracking, and SpO₂ measurement. The Chinese launch price was 399 yuan.
Huawei Central reported that Chinese sales were scheduled to begin on December 12, 2019 (Huawei Central).
What independent GPS actually does
The band contains its own GPS hardware, so it can record an outdoor workout route without using the phone’s location chip. Huawei’s Japanese announcement specifically describes phone-free recording for activities such as running, cycling, and swimming (Huawei Japan announcement).

That is different from a connected-GPS tracker, which relies on a paired phone during exercise. The phone may still be needed to synchronize the activity afterward, review detailed history, change settings, or install updates. Built-in GPS does not provide turn-by-turn navigation, cellular connectivity, emergency calling, or live location sharing. The launch material establishes the feature’s presence and intended use, but not a tested accuracy figure, satellite-lock time, route quality, or battery result.
NFC is regional, not universal contactless payment
The NFC hardware is real, but “NFC” should not be read as a promise of worldwide bank-card payments. Chinese coverage described support for transit cards, access cards, and other smart-card functions; it also mentioned an Alipay-related offline payment function (IT之家 NFC report).

Actual capabilities can vary with the country, firmware, Huawei Health region, payment provider, transit system, and exact model. The presence of an NFC chip does not establish Google Pay, Apple Pay, or bank-card tokenization support in the United States. Huawei Japan’s release confirms GPS and health features for its market, but does not prove that every Chinese NFC service was available on the Japanese variant (Huawei Japan announcement).

A 50-meter rating is not permission for hot tubs, hot showers, or high-pressure water. It describes the stated test classification, not unrestricted use in every wet environment.
Health and training features
Huawei marketed the band with TruSeen 3.5 heart-rate monitoring and TruSleep 2.0 sleep analysis. Supported exercise modes could report pace, calories, heart rate, training effect, recovery time, and estimated VO₂ max, while the band also offered SpO₂ measurement (IT之家 feature report; Huawei Japan announcement).

These are wellness measurements, not diagnoses. Huawei Japan states that the product is not medical equipment and that its data should not be used for medical care or precision-critical professional measurement (Huawei Japan announcement). Do not treat an SpO₂ or heart-rate reading as a substitute for clinical equipment.
Design and everyday operation
The Band 4 Pro uses the familiar slim fitness-band form factor, a metal frame, silicone strap, color AMOLED display, and a physical control button. At approximately 24 g, it is substantially lighter than a conventional smartwatch, while still presenting workout and health information on-screen. The launch evidence does not establish a precise battery-life figure; GPS and continuous sensing can consume more power than ordinary watch use.

Huawei Japan listed Pink Gold, Cinnabar Red, and Graphite Black for its January 17, 2020 release at 8,800 yen before tax (Huawei Japan announcement). The available launch evidence does not establish official US availability or whether the product remains officially sold in any market in 2026.
Band 4 Pro versus the standard Band 4
The practical distinction is positioning: the Pro model adds built-in GPS and NFC to the basic Band 4 concept while retaining the same general band format and 0.95-inch AMOLED class of display. It is therefore closer to the earlier Band 3 Pro than to a minimal step-counting tracker for anyone who wants phone-free route recording. A complete global feature matrix for every Band 4 regional variant is not established by the launch reports, so check the exact local specifications before assuming other differences.
Who should consider it in 2026?
Good fit
- Buyers specifically seeking an older, inexpensive Huawei band with standalone outdoor route recording.
- People living where the exact model’s transit, access-card, or payment NFC services are confirmed.
- Huawei phone users who are comfortable using the Huawei Health ecosystem.
Reasons to hesitate
- It is 2019-era hardware, so software support, battery condition, accessories, and app compatibility may be limited.
- US buyers should not assume useful contactless payments from the NFC label alone.
- It is not a full smartwatch: the launch evidence does not establish cellular service, a Wear OS-style app platform, emergency features, or broad third-party payment support.
- Imported units can bring uncertain language settings, regional firmware, warranty coverage, charger availability, and Huawei Health compatibility.
- Anyone needing medically reliable oxygen, heart-rate, or cardiac measurements should use appropriate clinical equipment.
Checklist before buying an imported or used unit
- Confirm the exact model number and sales region.
- Check which NFC service—if any—is supported in your country and Huawei Health region.
- Verify phone compatibility, firmware language, and the current Huawei Health app behavior.
- Ask about battery condition, replacement straps, and charging accessories.
- Confirm warranty, returns, and whether regional service centers will support the unit.
- For GPS workouts, expect the band to need an unobstructed outdoor view of the sky; synchronize with the phone before or after exercise if the relevant firmware requires it.
Bottom line
The Huawei Band 4 Pro was a meaningful 2019 upgrade over basic fitness bands: independent GPS enables phone-free route recording, and NFC can be useful in supported regional ecosystems. Its 399-yuan China launch price and later Japanese release are historical facts, not evidence of a current US product. In 2026, buy one only after verifying the exact region, NFC service, app support, battery condition, and warranty.
