000webhost has closed, so the right replacement depends on what your site runs: use a conventional PHP/MySQL host for WordPress and legacy PHP, or a deployment platform for static sites and modern JavaScript apps. For most users who need traditional hosting, Hostinger is the strongest fit; for a free static site, Cloudflare Pages is a better match. Free PHP hosts such as InfinityFree and AwardSpace can work for experiments, but are a risky foundation for a business.

What happened to 000webhost?

Hostinger’s corporate sustainability report confirms that it closed 000webhost as part of a strategic change, but the cited report does not establish a definitive closure date. Hostinger’s paid hosting is a separate current service, not proof that an old 000webhost account or its contents remain available. Hostinger sustainability report.

Old tutorials, sign-in links, and migration instructions may no longer work. If your account is inaccessible, do not assume a redirect or a new Hostinger account can restore your old files or database. Look first for a local copy, exported SQL file, Git repository, or backup. Public pages may sometimes be reconstructed from search results or the Internet Archive, but those sources will not recover private files or a database.

Choose a replacement by what your site needs

Site or workload Good starting choices Avoid as a direct substitute
Plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript Cloudflare Pages, GitHub Pages, Netlify, or Vercel Paying for PHP hosting if you do not need it
PHP and MySQL Hostinger; InfinityFree or AwardSpace for low-stakes experiments GitHub Pages, Vercel, or Cloudflare Pages as if they were conventional PHP hosts
WordPress Hostinger for a supported, conventional hosting setup Static hosts; severely restricted free hosting for production
Next.js or React Vercel, Netlify, or Cloudflare Pages Shared hosting when the app depends on Node or serverless features
API or small backend Render, Netlify Functions, Vercel Functions, or Cloudflare Workers GitHub Pages
Ecommerce or a business site that must stay available Paid Hostinger or another paid host with suitable support and recovery options GitHub Pages or a free shared host with uncertain resource and suspension policies
Documentation, portfolio, or open-source project page GitHub Pages or Cloudflare Pages Paying for database hosting you do not need

“Enhanced features” means different things in each case. For traditional hosting, check PHP versions and extensions, MySQL/MariaDB, WordPress support, resource limits, email, cron jobs, file access, backups, and restore options. For deployment platforms, check Git integration, build limits, previews, functions, data services, and what happens when a quota is reached. For either kind, review custom-domain and SSL support, commercial-use rules, support access, and renewal pricing.

Eight 000webhost alternatives, matched to their strengths

1. Hostinger: best overall for conventional hosting

Best for: WordPress, PHP sites, blogs, and small businesses that want a control panel and paid support rather than a free experiment.

Hostinger is the closest fit for users who want a conventional website host with a broader paid-service package. Its web-hosting page lists WordPress tools, email, SSL, backups, CDN, ecommerce features, and 24/7 support. The Premium plan displayed three websites, 20 GB SSD storage, weekly backups, and email for one year. These are plan-specific inclusions, not guarantees for every tier or region.

On August 18, 2026, the displayed Premium promotional price was $2.99 per month on a 48-month term, totaling $143.52, with renewal shown at $10.99 per month. The offer depends on term, region, taxes, and promotion, and prices can change; check the checkout total and renewal terms before buying. Hostinger hosting plans and pricing.

Migration fit: Suitable for PHP/MySQL and WordPress migrations if you have the site files and a database export. It is a poor fit if you insist on permanent free hosting or need only static file delivery.

2. InfinityFree: closest free option for PHP/MySQL experiments

Best for: Learning PHP or testing a small, personal database-backed project without paying.

InfinityFree is more structurally similar to 000webhost than static deployment services because it offers shared-hosting-style PHP/MySQL hosting. That does not make it a dependable production replacement. Free hosts can impose resource, account, inactivity, traffic, abuse, and suspension limits that matter more than headline claims such as “unlimited.” The available evidence does not establish current official limits for storage, email, cron, or uptime, so verify those terms directly before depending on them. A secondary comparison reports restrictions including blocked PHP mail and unavailable cron jobs; treat those as claims to confirm, not guaranteed current specifications. Secondary InfinityFree comparison.

Migration fit: It may suit a small PHP project that tolerates interruption and has portable files and SQL. Avoid it for ecommerce, business-critical sites, email-sending applications, or data you cannot afford to lose.

3. AwardSpace: a small free-hosting candidate

Best for: A modest personal site or basic PHP project where you want to investigate a beginner-oriented shared host.

Special offer. See more information about Outbyte and uninstall instructions. Please review EULA and Privacy policy.

AwardSpace is another traditional-hosting candidate, rather than a static-only platform. The available evidence is not enough to establish its current free-plan resource limits or included email features. Check the provider’s plan page for the present storage, bandwidth, database, mailbox, SSL, and use restrictions before signing up; do not assume an old comparison still describes the offer. AwardSpace.

Migration fit: Consider it only for a low-demand site after confirming that its current PHP and database setup supports your application. A resource-constrained free plan is a poor choice for media-heavy websites, demanding WordPress installations, or predictable business performance.

4. Cloudflare Pages: best for static sites

Best for: Static sites, landing pages, documentation, and frontend projects that can be built from a Git repository.

Cloudflare Pages offers GitHub/GitLab integration, SSL, and globally distributed static delivery. Its product page listed unlimited sites, static requests, and bandwidth on Free, with 500 builds per month; the documentation also lists a 500-deploy monthly Free-plan limit. “Unlimited” does not remove acceptable-use rules or mean every kind of application is supported. Pages Functions can add server-side functionality, but they are not conventional PHP hosting and do not make an existing PHP/MySQL application a drop-in fit. Cloudflare directs newer full-stack applications toward Workers and related services. Choose another host if your site depends on Apache-specific `.htaccess` rules, traditional MySQL access, FTP workflows, or server-side filesystem sessions.

5. Netlify: best for Git-based sites with previews and integrated services

Best for: Static and Jamstack sites that benefit from deploy previews, forms, functions, and a Git-driven workflow.

For accounts created under its newer credit-based plans, Netlify lists Free at $0 per month with 300 credits per month and a hard limit; Personal is listed at $9 per month with 1,000 credits. Free includes Git, API, or AI deployment, previews, custom domains with SSL, functions, database and Blob features, and a global CDN. The new plans apply to accounts created from September 4, 2025; older accounts may remain on legacy plans. Netlify pricing and credit-based billing documentation.

When a Free project reaches its hard monthly limit, it can pause until the next billing cycle. Netlify says the Free plan can be used for commercial projects, but that permission does not remove the usage cap. Free versus Personal and Netlify Free-plan announcement.

Migration fit: Good for a static or framework-based project whose source is in Git. Not a direct home for a PHP/MySQL site that expects a continuously available conventional server.

6. Vercel: best fit for Next.js and modern frontend applications

Best for: Next.js, React, and Git-first frontend deployments that use serverless or edge capabilities.

Vercel’s pricing page lists Hobby at $0 per month and Pro at $20 per month. Hobby includes Git-based deployment, automatic CI/CD, global delivery, HTTPS, DDoS mitigation, performance insights, and usage-capped application features; displayed allowances include 100 GB per month of fast data transfer and 1 million edge requests per month. Check the live plan for current limits and terms. Vercel plans and usage.

Vercel describes Hobby as intended for personal projects. A business should review current commercial-use terms before choosing it. Vercel is not conventional cPanel, FTP, PHP, MySQL, or mailbox hosting, so it is not a direct replacement for a WordPress site merely because it can deploy websites.

7. Render: broader platform for prototypes and small services

Best for: Developers deploying static sites, APIs, web services, or prototypes that need more than static file hosting.

Render’s free offerings include static sites, web services, Postgres, and Key Value, but not every service type supports a Free instance. Render also warns it may suspend a Free web service generating unusually high public-internet traffic. Verify current sleep, resource, persistence, and bandwidth terms before treating a free instance as always-on. Render free-service documentation.

Migration fit: Better suited to developers moving code into a managed application platform than to users who want a familiar shared-hosting control panel. Free instances are a poor default for latency-sensitive or availability-critical production work.

8. GitHub Pages: best for documentation and project pages

Best for: Documentation, portfolios, resumes, educational sites, and open-source project pages built as static files.

GitHub Pages publishes static sites from GitHub repositories and does not provide PHP, a database, or private server-side application logic. GitHub states that Pages is not intended or allowed to run an online business, ecommerce site, or site primarily facilitating commercial transactions or commercial SaaS. It also warns against sensitive transactions such as passwords and credit-card numbers. GitHub Pages limits.

Migration fit: A straightforward destination when the site is already static and maintained in Git. It is the wrong choice for a transactional business site or any application that needs server-side processing.

Why free PHP hosting is not the same as free static hosting

A free shared PHP host runs application code and typically pairs it with a database. That is useful for learning or keeping a small legacy application online, but the operator controls resource ceilings, accepted workloads, and suspension policy. Confirm PHP extensions, database size, cron, outbound mail, backups, and support before moving anything important. SSL encrypts connections; by itself it does not provide a backup, secure application code, malware scanning, or account recovery.

A static host serves built files such as HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and images. It can be faster and simpler for documentation or a frontend site, often with Git-based deploys and CDN delivery, but it cannot run an unchanged PHP application or host a conventional MySQL database. Functions on platforms such as Pages, Netlify, or Vercel are a different serverless model, with platform-specific limits and storage assumptions.

Email also needs a separate check. A mailbox for reading and sending mail is not the same as transactional delivery for contact forms, password resets, or newsletters. Static deployment platforms should not be assumed to include mailboxes, and free shared hosts may restrict outbound mail. If email matters, identify the mailbox provider and the transactional-email path separately.

How to migrate an old 000webhost site

  1. Identify the application: determine whether it is static HTML/CSS/JS, PHP/MySQL, WordPress, or another runtime. That decides whether to choose shared hosting, static deployment, or an application platform.
  2. Gather files and configuration: collect the complete site, including hidden files such as .htaccess, and record the PHP version, database name, table prefix, environment variables, rewrite rules, and any scheduled tasks.
  3. Export the database: if an SQL backup exists, keep an untouched copy. If there is no accessible export, the replacement provider normally cannot retrieve data from the closed account.
  4. Choose a compatible destination: use PHP/MySQL hosting for PHP or WordPress, static hosting for built frontend files, and an application platform for Node, Python, APIs, or serverless code.
  5. Upload or deploy: transfer files or connect the Git repository. On a static host, check that the publish directory is the build output—often dist, build, or public—rather than the repository root.
  6. Recreate services: create a new database if needed, import SQL, and update database credentials and site URLs. Configure mail and scheduled jobs separately if the application relies on them.
  7. Connect the domain: set the destination’s required DNS records, remove conflicting stale records carefully, then enable HTTPS and test redirects. Conflicting A, AAAA, CNAME, or nameserver settings can make a migration appear incomplete.
  8. Test real functions: verify forms, login, uploads, images, database writes, email delivery, redirects, and scheduled tasks. Keep the original backup untouched until the replacement has operated successfully.

Common migration failures and what they mean

  • PHP errors after upload: the new host may use a different PHP version or lack an extension your code requires. Check the application’s compatibility requirements and the host’s supported modules.
  • Rewrite rules fail: `.htaccess` directives are Apache-specific; a platform that does not use Apache may require different routing configuration.
  • SQL import fails: database size limits, collation differences, or server-version differences can interrupt an import. Check the exact error and adjust the export/import method rather than repeatedly uploading the same dump.
  • WordPress scheduled work does not run: WordPress cron behavior or host restrictions may differ. Confirm that the replacement supports the required scheduled tasks.
  • Mail does not arrive: `mail()` may be blocked or unreliable. A hosting mailbox and an application’s transactional email delivery are separate services.
  • Media or backup upload is rejected: file-size and request limits can block large uploads even when storage appears available.
  • Serverless code loses files: serverless functions may be stateless; local writes are not necessarily persistent. Use the platform’s supported database or object storage.
  • Pages show 404s or old content: verify the publish directory, build output, DNS records, and whether a stale cached deployment is being served.

How to judge “unlimited” and free-plan claims

Storage or bandwidth described as unlimited does not mean unlimited CPU, file count, processes, traffic behavior, or acceptable use. Inodes, abuse controls, inactivity policies, and automatic suspension can be more important than a headline quota. Read the current terms for the exact service and plan, particularly before storing user data or relying on the site for sales.

Free platforms also fail differently when limits are reached. Netlify documents a hard Free-plan limit that can pause projects; Render warns of possible suspension for unusually high public traffic. Do not treat a free plan as an availability promise. For a site that earns revenue, stores customer data, or would be costly to rebuild, budget for a plan with an appropriate recovery path, defined resources, and support.
