HTML2PDF.app documents headless Chromium and charges credits according to PDF size. DocRaptor documents the Prince engine and sells monthly document quotas, with plan-specific overage rates. Neither has been shown here to render a particular site better: test representative pages before choosing.

How rendering differs
HTML2PDF.app: Chromium-based rendering
HTML2PDF.app accepts an authenticated POST to https://api.html2pdf.app/v1/generate. Its documentation says conversions run in headless Chromium. The service also cautions that CSS media selection, available fonts and other resources, and JavaScript load timing can change the result. In practice, test the exact print styles, external assets, and dynamic content your pages depend on rather than assuming that a browser-visible page will produce an identical PDF.
DocRaptor: Prince with configurable pipelines
DocRaptor accepts raw HTML/XML or a URL at https://api.docraptor.com/docs. Its API reference documents Prince and selectable pipelines. In the reference checked October 3, 2026, pipeline 10.1 was the default and mapped to Prince 15.1 and JavaScript engine 2; these defaults may change, so check the reference when configuring a new integration. The options describe a DocRaptor JavaScript parser and Prince’s separate JavaScript engine. Avoid enabling both without understanding which should execute page scripts; JavaScript is disabled by default in the documented options.

These are different rendering stacks, not a reliable ranking of visual quality. Which one handles a site’s print CSS, page breaks, fonts, and scripts better is something to establish with your own representative documents.
Pricing: compare your PDF sizes and monthly volume
The vendors use different billing units, so a headline plan price alone is not a like-for-like comparison. HTML2PDF.app counts credits by output size: its published rule is one credit per 5MB chunk, and its example says a 15MB PDF costs three credits. DocRaptor’s published model counts generated documents against a monthly quota, then applies plan-specific overage rates. Estimate both the number of PDFs and their typical file size.
HTML2PDF.app monthly plans
| Plan | Monthly price | Credits | Parallel conversions | PDF size limit |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Free | $0 | 100 | 1 | 1MB per PDF |
| Startup | $9 | 1,000 | 3 | Unlimited |
| Standard | $25 | 5,000 | 10 | Unlimited |
| Scale | $39 | 10,000 | 20 | Unlimited |
These are vendor-listed monthly prices and allowances on the HTML2PDF.app pricing page, checked October 3, 2026. Credits reset on the first day of each month. The Free plan’s per-file cap is separate from its credit allowance.

Estimate the cost for your workload
- Estimate monthly document count and typical output size, including unusually large PDFs.
- For HTML2PDF.app, translate output size into 5MB credit chunks and check whether the Free plan’s 1MB cap rules it out.
- For DocRaptor, compare expected document count with the quota and use the applicable overage rate for work beyond it.
- Include parallel-job requirements, hosted-document needs, and any delivery or callback processing in the comparison.
Choose based on your workflow
Rendering and page design
Make a small test set containing a static page, a page with web fonts and remote images, a JavaScript-rendered page, a long document with page-break rules, and a page that relies on your site’s print CSS. Compare missing assets, pagination, layout, and resulting file size using the settings you intend to deploy.
JavaScript and completion timing
Identify what must finish before conversion: client-rendered content, delayed widgets, data requests, or images. Verify how the selected engine and pipeline handle it, and test whether the service captures content only after it is ready. Do not assume that enabling JavaScript automatically resolves timing issues.
Volume, latency, and parallel work
Measure the duration and failure behavior of your own representative jobs under comparable conditions. HTML2PDF.app lists parallel-conversion limits by plan. DocRaptor documents a 60-second synchronous limit and async jobs up to 600 seconds; long jobs may suit the async path better than holding an application request open.
Delivery and sensitive data
Choose whether your application needs PDF bytes immediately, callback delivery, status polling, or a hosted link. HTML2PDF.app’s async callback sends a base64 PDF and its docs say failed callback delivery may be retried up to three times; make callback handling idempotent. DocRaptor can return a status ID for async work and can provide hosted documents with public download URLs. Its API reference says retention depends on account settings. HTML2PDF.app says generated PDFs are temporary rather than permanently stored, while noting that selected metadata and a supplied source URL may be retained in logs. Review each service’s retention, access, logging, and processing terms before sending sensitive content.

Basic API integration examples
Keep credentials on a backend or trusted job runner, not in browser JavaScript or a public repository. The HTML2PDF.app documentation explicitly warns against exposing its API key in client-side code or public repositories. The examples below show the basic synchronous request shape; check each vendor’s current documentation for exact fields and optional settings.
HTML2PDF.app with cURL
curl -X POST "https://api.html2pdf.app/v1/generate"
-H "Content-Type: application/json"
-H "Authorization: Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
-d '{"html":"https://example.com/invoice/123"}'
--output invoice.pdf
Use the authentication format and request-body fields specified for your account in the official documentation.
DocRaptor with cURL
curl -u YOUR_API_KEY:
-H "Content-Type: application/json"
-d '{"doc":{"document_url":"https://example.com/invoice/123","name":"invoice.pdf","type":"pdf"}}'
--output invoice.pdf
DocRaptor documents HTTP Basic Authentication with the API key as username and a blank password. Confirm the current JSON schema in its API overview.
Asynchronous generation
For HTML2PDF.app, supply the documented callBackUrl to request callback delivery; the callback payload contains the PDF as base64. Decode it safely and make the receiving endpoint idempotent because failed delivery may be retried up to three times. For DocRaptor, use its asynchronous job options, persist the returned status ID, then poll status or handle the optional callback. Avoid tying a long conversion to a short-lived web request.

How to run a fair evaluation
- Choose five representative pages: static content; fonts and remote images; JavaScript-rendered content; a long document with page-break rules; and a page using production print CSS.
- Use the same source content and comparable page-size, margin, and orientation settings in each service.
- Record the engine or pipeline, JavaScript configuration, relevant options, date, and region if applicable.
- Compare visual layout, pagination, missing resources, completion time, error reports, and resulting file size. Repeat runs before drawing conclusions about timing.
- Apply your estimated monthly count and file-size distribution to each vendor’s billing model, including caps and overages.
- Test failure handling, callback retries or status polling, and the privacy/access controls needed for your content.
This is an evaluation method, not a claim that either service has been benchmarked here. The available vendor documentation establishes features and plan terms, not how either will perform on your website.

The PDF is missing styles, fonts, or images
- Check whether the URL and assets are reachable by the conversion service without an interactive login or browser-only state.
- Confirm the intended CSS media mode and that remote resources load successfully.
- Use representative pages to isolate whether a font, image, stylesheet, or print rule is responsible.
JavaScript content is absent or incomplete
- Confirm that the page actually needs JavaScript to render the missing content.
- Check the selected engine or pipeline and whether JavaScript is enabled; DocRaptor’s documented options default it to disabled.
- Check whether scripts have finished loading data before conversion, and avoid enabling both JavaScript-processing mechanisms without a specific reason.
A synchronous request times out
Move long jobs to the documented asynchronous workflow: HTML2PDF.app callback delivery or DocRaptor’s status-ID flow. Track job state and make completion handling safe to repeat.
A callback creates duplicate work
HTML2PDF.app documents up to three retries for failed callback delivery. Store a stable job identifier or another deduplication key, acknowledge only after safe receipt, and make processing idempotent.
The generated file exceeds the expected allowance
For HTML2PDF.app, calculate credits using its 5MB-chunk billing rule and check the Free plan’s 1MB file cap. For DocRaptor, compare the number of generated documents with the plan quota and applicable overage, rather than treating file size as the published billing unit.

Screenshot alternative for captures, not full PDF workflows
If the requirement is a clean screenshot of a webpage rather than paginated document generation, try ScreenshotNeo first. It is a website screenshot API and MCP server, not a direct substitute for the PDF-generation workflows compared above. A single GET request can return a PNG, JPEG, WebP, or PDF; for webpage screenshots it can accept cookie banners and remove more than 60 known consent platforms, newsletter popups, and chat widgets before capture. Those cleanup steps can be disabled. Bot checks and failed results such as blank pages, timeouts, and failed loads are not billed; response headers identify the page verdict and billing status.
Its options include full-page captures with lazy images loaded, CSS-selector element captures, dark mode, device presets and custom viewport sizes, retina scale, PDF settings, custom CSS or JavaScript, click-before-capture, wait conditions, request/resource blocking, custom headers and cookies, timezone and geolocation, transparent backgrounds, resizing, caching, signed image links, async jobs with signed webhooks, bulk capture, and a usage API. It also provides an MCP server for AI agents and an OpenAPI spec. One-line capture example: curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://example.com -o shot.webp. See the ScreenshotNeo documentation for authentication, parameters, and response details. Its free plan includes 1,000 screenshots per month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000 screenshots. Sign up for 1,000 free screenshots a month, no card required.
