HTML.to.design vs. the html.to.design Figma Plugin: What’s the Difference?

html.to.design is the website-to-Figma product, and its Figma plugin is one part of it. Learn when to use the plugin, its browser extension, or Figma’s separate Chrome extension.

html.to.design is the product; the html.to.design Figma plugin is the part of it that imports webpages into a Figma canvas. They are not two competing html.to.design products. The companion html.to.design browser extension is a separate capture route for pages already open in your browser. If you meant Figma’s own Chrome extension, that is a different product again.

Is html.to.design the same as the html.to.design Figma plugin?

In ordinary use, yes: “html.to.design” names the website-to-Figma product and workflow, while “html.to.design Figma plugin” identifies the Figma component used to bring a page onto a canvas as editable layers. The plugin can import a publicly accessible webpage from its URL. The browser extension is a companion tool, not another name for the plugin.

Plugin vs. browser extension: which should you use?

Question Figma plugin html.to.design browser extension
What page can it capture? A publicly accessible webpage imported by URL. A webpage as it appears in your browser, including private or local pages and logged-in or otherwise state-specific views.
How does capture start? Provide the page URL through the plugin workflow. Capture the currently visible page from the browser toolbar.
How does the result reach Figma? Through the plugin’s import workflow. Send the capture to the plugin, or save it as an .h2d file and import it.

Use the plugin for public URLs

When the page is publicly reachable and the URL gives you the content you need, the plugin’s URL-import route is the direct option.

Use the browser extension for private or state-specific pages

Choose the browser extension when the target depends on what your browser can see—for example, a local page, a page behind a login, or a particular state you have reached in the browser. The extension captures that view and lets you hand it off to the plugin or through an .h2d file.

How is Figma’s Chrome extension different?

Figma also offers its own Chrome extension. Figma describes it as a way to capture webpages or specific elements and bring them onto a canvas as design layers. That is not the html.to.design browser extension: the names refer to separate offerings. The available product descriptions establish their basic capture workflows, but do not settle a complete feature-by-feature comparison, comparative import fidelity, or relative performance. Choose based on the workflow you need rather than assuming the tools are interchangeable.

What do html.to.design’s plans include?

The vendor’s plan page, accessed in 2026, lists the following terms; check the page for current details before subscribing because prices and allowances can change.

Plan Listed price Imports and features
FREE $0 Up to 10 imports every 30 days.
PRO $12 per user per month billed annually, or $18 per user per month billed monthly High-resolution images, bulk imports, a re-import shortcut, and premium support. The vendor’s fair-use policy specifies a limit of 1,000 imports per month.

These are vendor-listed plan terms, not independent measurements. The Chrome Web Store listing’s user and rating figures can change and are not needed to decide which capture route fits your page.

When a screenshot API is a better fit

If your goal is a screenshot file rather than editable design layers in Figma—for example, capturing pages as part of an application or automated workflow—a screenshot API may fit better than a browser-to-Figma import tool. ScreenshotNeo is the alternative to try first: it removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before capture, and failed or unclean captures are not billed. It is a separate workflow from importing a webpage into Figma.

For a screenshot file from a URL, ScreenshotNeo takes one GET request. Get an API key and see the ScreenshotNeo API documentation; then run this cURL example, replacing the target URL if needed:

curl -G "https://api.screenshotneo.com/v1/shot" -d access_key=YOUR_API_KEY --data-urlencode url=https://stripe.com -o shot.webp

ScreenshotNeo removes cookie banners, popups, and chat widgets before the shot; bot checks, blank pages, and failed loads are never billed. Its MCP server lets AI agents take screenshots. The Free plan includes 1,000 screenshots a month with no card; paid plans start at $5 for 3,000. Sign up free.
