For technology buyers, map each vendor’s products to your campus, branch, routing, data-center, and cloud requirements. For investors, treat that portfolio comparison as only a starting point: HPE’s July 2025 acquisition of Juniper changed the scope of its networking business, while Cisco’s FY2025 networking product category declined 3%. Those facts do not establish which stock is the better investment.
What changed for HPE after its Juniper acquisition?
HPE completed its acquisition of Juniper Networks on July 2, 2025. HPE said the combination doubled the size of its networking business, bringing Juniper together with HPE’s Aruba portfolio and adding reach in data-center networking, routing, service providers, and AI-native networking. That is HPE’s description of the strategic rationale; it is not independent evidence that expected benefits have been realized. HPE’s acquisition announcement

HPE’s FY2025 filing describes a portfolio spanning access points, CX and QFX switches, MX and PTX routers, and gateways. It also names Mist and Aruba Central management platforms. Its data-center networking portfolio presents Apstra and Mist capabilities. This breadth means HPE’s current networking scope cannot be understood by looking only at its pre-acquisition Aruba business.

HPE later described continued integration of Aruba Central and Mist capabilities in its December 2025 announcement. Integration is an execution issue to watch; an announcement about combining capabilities does not by itself show customer outcomes or financial gains.

How do Cisco’s networking and infrastructure offerings compare?
Cisco’s networking portfolio covers campus and access, branch, WAN, data center, hybrid cloud, and multicloud. Its named product families include Catalyst access switches and access points, Meraki products, and Nexus data-center networking. Cisco’s networking overview is useful for identifying those domains, while Cisco’s FY2025 reporting describes AI-ready data-center offerings. These are product and company descriptions, not independent performance tests.
At a high level, both companies address multiple enterprise networking environments. The practical distinction is not simply how many product names appear in each portfolio. Check whether the specific products and management systems address your architecture, operating model, migration needs, and required integrations.

What do the latest comparable financial figures show?
Cisco reported $28.304 billion in FY2025 networking product revenue, down 3% from $29.229 billion in FY2024. Cisco attributed the decline mainly to normalization after elevated prior-year product shipments and lower campus switching. Its networking product category includes switching, routing, wireless, and servers. These are Cisco-reported fiscal-year figures, not a like-for-like measure of the two companies’ networking businesses. Cisco FY2025 annual report
Do not compare Cisco’s networking product revenue directly with HPE networking segment revenue as if the figures used identical definitions. Cisco reports product categories, while HPE reports segments; HPE’s acquired portfolio and reporting scope are also changing after the Juniper deal. A fair growth comparison needs aligned fiscal periods, category definitions, acquisition timing, and treatment of any business included in each figure.

Which comparison matters for your portfolio?
If you mean a technology portfolio
Start with the network you need to build or operate. Compare the required domains—campus and access, branch and WAN, routing, data center, and cloud management—then evaluate the products and platforms each company offers for those requirements. For data-center or AI-related projects, distinguish a vendor’s product positioning from independently demonstrated performance and customer results; the company materials cited here do not establish comparative benchmarks or satisfaction.
- List the environments and capabilities your deployment actually requires.
- Assess platform fit, management needs, and migration implications for your existing network.
- Seek evidence of performance and customer outcomes for the use case rather than treating broad portfolio claims as proof of superiority.
If you mean an investment portfolio
Networking breadth is not a stock recommendation. A fuller investment comparison would need current valuation, company-wide growth, margins, free cash flow, debt, capital returns, and execution risk, considered alongside your objectives and risk tolerance. The company materials summarized here do not comprehensively establish those measures or determine expected returns.

Keep management’s AI-demand commentary in perspective. HPE Networking EVP, President and General Manager Rami Rahim said in a December 3, 2025 announcement, “In the era of AI, customers need networks that are purpose-built with AI and for AI to handle the rapid growth of connected devices, complex environments, and increasing security threats.” Cisco Chair and CEO Chuck Robbins wrote in Cisco’s FY2025 summary annual report, “The next phase of AI, driven by autonomous agents in constant interaction, will create unprecedented demand for faster, more intelligent, and more secure networks.” Both are executives’ views about demand, not measured forecasts or evidence that one company will outperform the other.

What the available evidence can—and cannot—settle
Company filings and product pages establish how HPE and Cisco describe their businesses and provide the cited reported financial figures. They do not independently establish product performance, market share, customer satisfaction, or stock valuation. HPE’s acquisition adds an additional comparability and integration consideration; Cisco’s reported networking decline is one product-category result, not a complete measure of Cisco’s company-wide prospects.
