On most HP ZBooks running Windows 10 or Windows 11, press Windows + Shift + S to capture part of the screen, or press Windows + Print Screen to save the full screen as a PNG. The first method copies a selection to the clipboard; the second saves an image in PicturesScreenshots.
Choose the capture you need

These shortcuts are documented for Windows 10 and Windows 11; the key layout and need for Fn can differ by ZBook model. Microsoft explains Snipping Tool capture modes, while HP documents its ZBook screenshot shortcuts.

Capture a selected area or one window
- Press Windows + Shift + S. The screen dims and the Snipping Tool capture overlay appears.
- Choose a rectangular snip, freeform snip, window snip, or full-screen snip, then make the capture.
- To keep or edit it, select the notification that appears. Snipping Tool opens the image, where you can edit, share, or save it.
The snip is copied to the clipboard as well, so you can paste it into a document, message, or image editor with Ctrl + V. For a quick copy of the active window rather than a selection, press Alt + Print Screen, then paste it where you need it. Microsoft documents copying a window or screen.

Save the full screen as an image
Press Windows + Print Screen. HP describes the resulting screenshot as a PNG saved in PicturesScreenshots. To find it, open File Explorer and go to Pictures > Screenshots; Microsoft also identifies that folder as the destination for this shortcut. See Microsoft’s Print Screen shortcut guidance.

Find a screenshot copied to the clipboard
A capture made with Print Screen or Alt + Print Screen is copied, not automatically saved as a file. Open the document, message, or editor where you want it and press Ctrl + V. To save or modify the image, paste it into an app that supports images or use Snipping Tool after taking a snip.
Capture a menu before it disappears
- Open Snipping Tool from the Start menu.
- Set a short Delay, then select New.
- During the countdown, open the menu or pop-up you want to capture.
- When the capture overlay appears, take the snip.
The delay gives you time to open transient screen content before the snip begins. HP and Microsoft both describe delayed capture for this kind of situation. HP’s Snipping Tool instructions and Microsoft’s Snipping Tool guide cover the feature.

Troubleshoot a Print Screen key that does not work
- Check the key label. It may read PrtSc or PrtScn, or share a key with another function.
- Try the Fn layer. On some laptop keyboard layouts, hold Fn while pressing the key. Depending on the marking and intended capture, try Fn + Print Screen or Fn + Windows + Print Screen.
- Use the on-screen capture tool. Press Windows + Shift + S, or open Snipping Tool from Start if the key is absent or unclear.
- Check model-specific documentation. ZBook generations and keyboard configurations do not all use the same Print Screen arrangement; consult HP documentation for the exact model if the shortcuts above do not match your keyboard.
HP notes that laptop keyboards may require Fn to activate the function represented by a key symbol. The exact combination is not universal across ZBooks.
