The HP OmniPad 12 can handle many student and light-work routines, but it is not a safe universal laptop replacement. In India, the reviewed package pairs a 12-inch 2K/90Hz Android tablet with a detachable keyboard and folio; its large screen and productivity features are appealing, while reports of stutter under multitasking make performance the key caveat. It is most promising for documents, browsing, online meetings and media—not demanding apps or workflows that depend on desktop software.
What is the HP OmniPad 12?
HP introduced the OmniPad 12 as an Android-based detachable intended for students, families, first-time laptop buyers and small businesses. HP describes its approach as “It’s a tablet. It’s a laptop. It’s both,” pointing to a taskbar, windowed multitasking, keyboard shortcuts and a detachable keyboard. Those features bring some laptop-like convenience, but they do not make every desktop application or workflow available on Android. The product family is listed by HP Support as the 12-m0000 series, released in June 2026. HP product page · HP specifications

How good are the display and hardware?
HP specifies a 12-inch diagonal touchscreen with 2000 × 1200 resolution, a 90Hz refresh rate, 400-nit brightness and 100% sRGB coverage. It is a 16:10 panel, which offers room for documents and web pages while remaining useful for video. A microSD reader is also listed, alongside the two UFS storage capacities.
The device uses a Qualcomm Snapdragon SM6475Q processor, with six cores and a maximum listed frequency of 2.40GHz, plus 8GB of onboard LPDDR5-3200 memory. Gadgets 360 measured the tablet at about 600g and the detachable keyboard at roughly 650g, or around 1.25kg together. That is portable for a screen-and-keyboard setup, but it is worth comparing with a conventional laptop if you expect to carry the complete package every day.
Does it work well for study and everyday productivity?
For reading, web research, document editing, video calls and streaming, the OmniPad’s large display and included typing setup make a credible case. India Today Tech reviewer Armaan Agarwal found routine browsing, Google Docs, video playback and a multi-app desk-mode scenario adequate, and described the keyboard as enjoyable for a tablet keyboard. The review also noted occasional interface jitters and bugs.

Gadgets 360 reviewer Dhruv Raghav found the screen and Android 16 desk mode useful, but reported substantial stutter when switching between apps and browser tabs. Its published benchmark results were AnTuTu 8,94,429; PCMark Work Performance 3.0 11,700; Geekbench 6 CPU 1,006 single-core and 2,583 multi-core; and Geekbench AI CPU (quantized) 1,664. These are that publication’s test results, not a promise of performance in every app or workload.
The reviews’ different impressions are useful rather than contradictory: a routine document-and-video workload may feel adequate, while frequent app or tab switching can expose sluggishness. If your work involves demanding creative applications, sustained heavy multitasking or software available only for Windows or macOS, compare a conventional laptop before treating the OmniPad as your only computer.

How long does the battery last?
Battery figures vary with workload and test method. India Today Tech reported around 7–8 hours of screen-on time in lighter use. Gadgets 360 recorded 16 hours 29 minutes in a PCMark battery run from 100% down to 20%; that is a single review test, not typical-use guidance. HP advertises “up to 18 hours” based on its own internal testing under optimal laboratory and network conditions, and says actual results vary with use and environment. Who should consider it—and who should keep looking?
A plausible fit
- Students who mainly read, research online, write documents and join video meetings.
- People who want a large-screen Android tablet that can also serve as a light typing station, with keyboard and folio included in the reviewed India package.
- Travelers whose work fits Android apps and who value a detachable format; Gadgets 360 considered it potentially useful for some traveling professionals and students.
Compare with a conventional laptop
- Anyone reliant on desktop-only software or advanced creative tools should confirm app compatibility before buying.
- People who frequently keep many apps or tabs active should take the reported switching stutter seriously.
- Buyers who type for long stretches should try the keyboard and trackpad in person if possible; the reviews’ positive comments are subjective and may not match every user’s preferences.
Before making it your only computer, check that your essential apps, file formats, peripherals and school or work systems function in Android. Also compare the complete package weight and current price with a laptop that runs the desktop software you need.
Verdict
The HP OmniPad 12 is a capable-looking Android productivity tablet whose 12-inch high-refresh display, detachable keyboard and folio make it more practical for study and light work than a tablet alone. But the mixed reports on interface smoothness and multitasking mean it is better viewed as a laptop alternative for specific, relatively light routines—not a blanket replacement. In India, the bundled setup may suit a student or first-time computer buyer who has verified their apps; for demanding work or desktop-dependent tasks, a conventional laptop remains the safer choice.
