You and your friends must enter the same server world, then cooperate through a clan or play alongside one another under that server’s rules. A private co-op session is quickest for a small group; a dedicated server is better when the world should remain available after one player quits. Official and private servers can differ in PvE/PvP rules, resets, clan limits, moderation and settings, so the listing or administrator matters as much as the game mode.

The basic multiplayer model
V Rising is not a peer-to-peer lobby game in which one player simply invites others into an otherwise separate save. The server is the persistent world. It stores the environment, castle locations, defeated bosses, unlocked abilities, loot rules, PvP settings and character progression for that world.

The normal sequence is straightforward:
- Choose an official, private or dedicated server.
- Create a vampire or load one already associated with that server.
- Have friends join the same server listing or address.
- Invite them to your clan if you want a shared base-building and progression run.
Players can also remain in the same world without joining one clan. That is useful for separate castles, informal alliances or competitive play, but each server’s rules determine what cooperation is permitted.
Stunlock Studios describes the game as playable solo or online and advertises building, hunting and rising together in clans. In practical terms, “co-op” means sharing a server world and coordinating inside its rule set, not carrying one universal character save from world to world.

Which server arrangement should you use?

There is no universally best choice. A host-based session minimizes setup, while a dedicated or rented server removes dependence on one player’s play schedule. Official servers reduce infrastructure work, but you accept the operator’s rules and reset policy. Private servers provide more control, but the owner or community is responsible for moderation, availability and configuration.
How to start a private co-op game
A private session is the fastest route when everyone can play at roughly the same time.

- Start the multiplayer flow. From V Rising’s game menus, choose the option for starting an online or private game rather than loading a single-player-only world.
- Configure access. Set a recognizable server name and password or invitation method. Review the available PvE/PvP, clan, loot and progression settings before creating the world; these choices define the run.
- Create or load your vampire. A new character begins progression in this server world. A character already tied to another server will not bring that server’s progression with it.
- Give friends the joining information. Friends select the same server or use the session’s invite and password details. If they cannot see it, confirm that the host is in the game, the session is actually online and any platform or network restrictions are not blocking the connection.
- Form the clan. Once everyone is in the world, open the player or social menu, select the clan option and send invitations. Clan membership enables coordinated castle building and shared progression where the server permits it.
The important limitation is host availability: when the host stops the session, friends cannot continue that private world independently. If that interruption is unacceptable, move the world to a dedicated arrangement instead of relying on a host’s game client.
When a dedicated server is worth it
A dedicated server is a separate V Rising Dedicated Server application, not merely a menu toggle that leaves the host’s client running. It is designed to keep the world process independent from the player who originally created it.

Self-hosting from Steam
- Open Steam’s Library and change the library filter to show Tools.
- Find and install V Rising Dedicated Server.
- Launch the server tool and create or edit its server configuration, including a custom name and access settings.
- Start the server process and give friends the server name or connection details.
- Join through V Rising’s server browser or the address supplied by the operator, then create or load the vampire intended for that world.
The machine running the process must remain powered, connected and configured to accept the players you expect. The operator also owns the practical maintenance work: applying updates, editing settings, checking logs, restarting after a crash and deciding who can join. A dedicated process can run while the operator is not actively playing, but it is not automatically available if the computer is shut down.
Using rented private hosting
Rented hosting shifts machine maintenance to a provider. Stunlock’s hosting guidance describes controls such as live status, settings, logs, configuration files, restarts, updates and permissions. Exact prices, regions, platform support and service terms change, so check the provider’s current offer before committing.

For PS5 private hosting, Stunlock’s PS5 FAQ published December 1, 2025 names PocketHost and GPortal as providers supporting private hosting at that time. That statement identifies supported services, not a permanent price or availability guarantee.
Official, private and dedicated server rules
Server labels are not cosmetic. Read the actual listing or ask the administrator before creating a character.

- Game mode: PvE servers focus on cooperation against the world, while PvP servers allow player combat. Some servers use additional restrictions or scheduled PvP rules.
- Clan settings: The official product page advertises clans of up to four fellow vampires. A private or dedicated administrator can expose a different clan limit through server settings, so the listing is the final authority for that world.
- Resets: Communities may wipe or reset worlds on a schedule. A reset can remove castles and world progression even though the game installation itself is unchanged.
- Loot and difficulty: Rates, enemy difficulty, castle rules and other progression values can be customized. Two servers labeled “PvE” may therefore produce very different pacing.
- Moderation: Official servers are hosted and moderated by Stunlock Studios. Private communities set and enforce their own rules, including bans on teaming, harassment or exploiting mechanics.
On official servers, Stunlock’s clan guidance says there are no rules against informal alliances between vampire clans, sometimes called teaming. That does not obligate a private community to allow it; private administrators can prohibit or limit alliances in their own rule set.
Clans, separate groups and communication
How clans function
Clans are the natural co-op unit for a shared castle and coordinated progression. The official site states a limit of up to four fellow vampires. Because server settings can alter limits, confirm the number shown for the server you selected before planning a larger group.
Players outside your clan can still occupy the same world. They may build separately, trade or cooperate informally where rules allow, or compete in PvP. A clan invitation is therefore a choice about shared organization, not a requirement for joining the server.
Text and voice chat on PS5
Stunlock’s PS5 documentation identifies Global, Local and Clan text-chat channels. It also says proximity chat is not currently supported on PS5 in that FAQ. Use the documented channels or an external voice service when you need communication beyond clan chat.

Chat on PC
Stunlock’s PC chat guide documents text and voice chat on official PC servers and on private servers hosted through PocketHost. The available channels and moderation can still depend on the server configuration, so a community’s rules remain relevant even when the game supports the feature.
Character progression and changing servers
Server choice is a long-term decision. Stunlock’s transfer guidance, updated July 3, 2025, states: “At this time, character transfers between servers are not supported in V Rising.” Progression, gear, castle ownership and unlocked abilities stay tied to the server where that vampire was created.
Joining another server normally means creating a new vampire there. Your original character remains on the first server and can be used again if you return. This also applies when switching between an official world and a private community: do not expect the same character inventory or castle to appear automatically.
Manual save copying on private infrastructure is not an officially supported migration method and can be unstable. Treat unofficial file manipulation as a potential loss or corruption risk rather than a normal transfer feature.
Steam, PS5 and crossplay
V Rising is available on Steam and PS5, but the cited official material does not clearly establish a current Steam-to-PS5 crossplay policy. Do not assume that a PC player can join a PS5 server, or that a PS5 player can enter every PC listing, solely because both platforms run V Rising.

- Whether the server accepts your platform.
- Whether players on the other platform can join that same server.
- Whether voice and text features differ between the platforms.
PS5 players should also distinguish between the game platform and the hosting arrangement. The PS5 FAQ names PocketHost and GPortal for private PS5 hosting, while a self-hosted dedicated server may involve platform-specific support and configuration requirements. Confirm those details with the current host before paying or scheduling a group.
Troubleshooting a multiplayer problem
Friends cannot find the world
- Confirm everyone selected the same server name, region and game mode.
- For a private session, verify that the host is still running the game and has not closed the world.
- For a dedicated server, check that the server process is running, updated and visible to the intended players.
- Recheck passwords, permissions and any platform restriction shown by the listing.
A friend joined but cannot share the castle
Joining the server does not automatically place a player in your clan. Send a clan invitation after they enter the world, and check whether the server’s clan limit has been reached.
The group cannot agree on a server
Decide first whether the priority is simultaneous play, always-on persistence, custom rules or low administration. Choose a private session for scheduled play, a dedicated process for an independently available world, or an official server when you prefer hosted infrastructure. Read reset schedules and PvE/PvP rules before anyone creates a character, because that character’s progression will remain tied to the chosen server.
