On Samsung phones, “Zip apps” or “S Zip” refers to archiving selected apps—not compressing them into ordinary ZIP files. The legacy feature removes an app from active use and stores it in an archive; while zipped, the app will not send notifications. The option may be missing or located elsewhere on newer Galaxy devices, so its availability and menu path depend on the model and software.
What “zipping apps” means on a Samsung phone
Samsung’s Storage Saver listing describes S Zip as a way to archive unused installed apps and restore them later from a zipped-app list or folder. A Samsung Members discussion describes the older behavior as internally uninstalling the app and storing its files in an Archive folder. This is app archiving, not a general file-compression tool.

Samsung does not state a compression ratio or guarantee how much storage a zipped app will free. The available information also does not establish a current compatibility list for Galaxy models, regions, or software versions.
How to find and use Zip apps
Look for the feature on your device
- Open Settings or your app list and search for “Storage Saver,” “Zip apps,” or “S Zip.” Menu names and availability can vary.
- If the feature appears, open it and select only apps you can leave inactive until you restore them. Archived apps will not send notifications.
An older Samsung Members guide gives this route: Apps → Smart Manager or Device maintenance → Storage → Zip apps. That guidance was posted in 2018 and is device-dependent; it is not a confirmed universal path for current Galaxy software.

Back up important app information first
Samsung’s Storage Saver listing says an app can be restored with user data, but a Samsung Members expert response in a Galaxy J discussion warns that app data may be cleared during the ZIP process. These accounts conflict, and neither establishes what will happen on every device. Back up information you cannot afford to lose before archiving an app.
Restore an archived app
If the option is available on your phone, restore the app through the zipped-app list or the Archive folder. The listing describes restoration from a zipped folder or list; the older community guidance identifies an Archive folder. Check the restored app and its information before relying on it.

If you cannot find Zip apps
The available menu instructions are legacy guidance, and the Storage Saver listing was last updated on March 24, 2020. The sources do not establish which current Galaxy devices include the feature. If searching Settings and the app list does not find it, consult Samsung support for your exact model and software version rather than assuming the option is hidden in the older menu.
