Before you start a 24/7 music livestream, ask the distributor or other Content ID rights administrator for the music to add your exact YouTube channel to its allowlist. Get confirmation that the change covers the tracks you plan to play. A music licence and an allowlist entry solve different problems: YouTube warns that a licensed stream can still be interrupted if the rights owner has not allowlisted the channel.
What a YouTube channel allowlist does—and what it does not do
A YouTube channel allowlist (sometimes called a whitelist) is an exemption a Content ID rights administrator applies to a channel. YouTube says its channel-level controls are available to partners using Content Manager. If you are a regular channel owner, you will usually need to ask the distributor, label, publisher, or other administrator that manages the relevant music rights to make the change on its side. YouTube’s guidance on exempting channels from Content ID claims explains the partner-side controls.

- It can help prevent future claims from the partner that added your channel. The exemption is for that partner’s relevant Content ID assets; it does not automatically cover music administered by another rights holder.
- It is not a music licence. You still need permission for the livestream’s content, territories, and duration. YouTube’s livestream terms and conditions require the necessary rights for live content in the relevant territories.
- It does not automatically clear earlier claims. Claims made before the channel was added need to be handled separately with the rights administrator.
- It is not a guarantee against every interruption. YouTube scans live streams for third-party matches; a match can lead to a placeholder, a warning, a temporary interruption, or termination.
YouTube’s instruction for licensed third-party content is to ask the content owner to add your channel to its Content ID allowlist. A licence alone may not stop a live stream from being interrupted if the channel has not been added. See YouTube’s live-stream copyright guidance.
How to ask your distributor to whitelist your channel
- Identify the exact channel. Find the channel ID in your YouTube channel URL. YouTube describes it as a 24-character alphanumeric string beginning with
UC. Send the ID and the channel URL so the administrator can identify the right channel. - List the music and rights administrators. Identify the distributor, label, publisher, or other administrator for each track you plan to stream. A track may involve more than one rights partner, and each relevant partner may need to add the channel.
- Ask for channel-level allowlisting. State that the channel will host a continuous livestream and identify the releases or assets you expect to play. Ask explicitly whether the request covers the whole channel or only particular videos or releases.
- Check the provider’s actual process. Distributor procedures differ. For example, the cited DistroKid help article describes an allowlist tool for individual videos after a claim, not whole-channel allowlisting. That example does not establish the policy of every distributor or every service they offer, so ask your own provider what it supports.
- Confirm coverage before going live. Ask the provider to confirm that the channel was added and that the entry applies to the music you intend to use. The exact request form and processing time depend on the provider; the available guidance does not establish a universal form or turnaround time.
- Resolve existing claims separately. Give the administrator the claim details and ask how it will be released or resolved. Do not assume a new allowlist entry removes a claim that already exists.
- Verify the licence terms. Check that your permission covers livestreaming, the territories where the stream will be available, and the duration and use you have planned. An allowlist entry does not expand the licence.
- Enable livestreaming in advance. YouTube for Artists advises verifying your account at least 24 hours before your first planned livestream. See Going Live for Music Channels.
What to include in your request
Send a concise request to the rights administrator, using its preferred support channel. Include the channel URL and ID, explain that you plan a continuous livestream, name the releases or tracks involved, and ask whether it can allowlist the whole channel for those assets. Ask how to handle any existing claims and what confirmation it can provide before launch.

There is no universal request form or guaranteed processing time established across distributors. If more than one partner administers rights in the music, ask whether each needs a separate request; YouTube’s partner guidance says each relevant partner must add the channel for its own assets.
Why a cleared music stream can still run into trouble
A licence does not replace the allowlist request
YouTube may detect third-party music during the live broadcast. If it does, the platform can show a placeholder and warn you to stop using the content; if the content remains, the stream may be temporarily interrupted or terminated. For licensed music, YouTube specifically recommends asking the rights owner to allowlist the channel. Keep your licence documentation and the provider’s confirmation, but do not treat either as a substitute for the other.

More than one rights administrator may be involved
An allowlist entry from one partner does not establish that every other partner with relevant rights has added the channel. Check the rights administration for each track and seek confirmation from each relevant provider before relying on the music in a continuous broadcast.

Existing claims need their own resolution
The channel exemption applies prospectively; it does not automatically release claims created before the addition. Follow up with the provider about each existing claim rather than waiting for the allowlist change to remove it.

A 24/7 stream may not produce a complete YouTube replay
YouTube says streams shorter than 12 hours can be automatically archived, while a stream longer than 12 hours may not be captured at all. If a replay matters, keep a local recording or plan shorter segments. Claims on an archived live stream may be made after the live stream is complete if you choose to archive it. See YouTube’s archive live streams guidance.
How to compare distributors for channel allowlisting
If you are choosing a distributor or rights administrator for music you intend to use in a continuous livestream, ask these questions before relying on its service:

- Does it support whole-channel allowlisting, or only release of claims on individual videos?
- Does it need a channel ID, a channel URL, or both—and who at the provider applies the change?
- Does the request cover all relevant Content ID assets or only selected releases?
- How are existing claims released or resolved?
- If multiple parties administer a track, will the provider coordinate their allowlist entries?
- What confirmation can you receive before the planned launch?
YouTube’s music aggregators information links to its Services Directory for providers involved in music delivery and Content ID management. Directory inclusion by itself does not establish that a provider offers whole-channel allowlisting; confirm the feature and process directly with the provider.

Or let it run in the cloud
For the playback side of a cleared YouTube music stream, StreamNeo keeps a YouTube channel live from uploaded videos in the cloud. Upload your recording or build a playlist, add your YouTube stream key, and go live. StreamNeo plays uploaded videos; it does not go live from a camera, and it does not grant music rights or replace distributor allowlisting.
