To watch an Apple TV show offline, download it first in the Apple TV app on a supported iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC, or Apple Vision Pro. Then open Library > Downloaded and choose the episode while your device is offline.
Watch a downloaded show offline
- Download the show while you have internet access. Open the Apple TV app, find the show, choose a season or episode, and select Download. On iPhone and iPad, you can browse or search for the title first. Apple’s guides cover downloads on iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC, and Apple Vision Pro. Apple’s download and streaming guide and its iPhone library guide explain the steps.
- Open the downloaded item. In the Apple TV app, go to Library > Downloaded, then select the show or episode to play. The file is stored on that device, so you do not need a connection for playback.
Which devices can download Apple TV shows?
Apple documents downloads in the Apple TV app on iPhone, iPad, Mac, PC, and Apple Vision Pro. The Apple TV app does not download content on Apple TV 4K or Apple TV HD, smart TVs, streaming devices, or tv.apple.com; those options are for streaming. If you plan to watch offline on a television, download the show onto a supported device before disconnecting from the internet. Apple’s device and download guidance lists the supported and unsupported destinations.

If a show will not download or play offline
- There is no Download option: The channel may not permit downloads, or you may have reached a download limit. Eligibility depends on the title, channel, account, and region; Apple does not identify one universal cause. Check the title’s available options and Apple’s download limits guidance.
- The download has disappeared or expired: Subscription and channel downloads are not necessarily permanent. Check whether the title is still available to download and download it again while online if the option is offered.
- Your device is low on storage: Remove videos you have finished watching in the Apple TV app. Apple’s library guide covers managing downloads.
- You are using a TV or streaming device: The Apple TV app on those devices cannot download shows. Download the episode on a supported phone, tablet, or computer before going offline.
