With Playwright, await page.goto(url) waits for the page’s load event by default. Then take the screenshot. If the image needs content rendered later by JavaScript, wait for a locator that identifies that content before capturing; no single browser load event guarantees every page is visually ready.
Wait for navigation, then wait for the content you need
A basic Playwright capture can navigate and take a screenshot directly:

await page.screenshot({ path: 'screenshot.png' });Replace the example heading with a condition that corresponds to the content or state your screenshot actually needs. A visible product price, chart, or results panel may be a better target than a generic heading.

Choose the right readiness signal
Navigation wait conditions mark different milestones, not interchangeable definitions of a finished visual page. Playwright documents commit, domcontentloaded, load, and networkidle as navigation wait options. Its Page API says networkidle means there have been no network connections for at least 500 ms, and discourages using it for testing in favor of web assertions. A quiet network does not prove the content needed in the screenshot is visible or settled. Playwright Page API

For instance, you can explicitly use a navigation milestone when calling goto, then wait for application content:

Playwright notes that waitForLoadState is often unnecessary because its actions auto-wait; that does not mean a screenshot automatically waits for arbitrary application-specific content to appear. Handle JavaScript-rendered pages explicitly
A document can reach its ready state while a single-page application continues to add or change content. Selenium makes the same distinction: its normal page-load strategy waits for ready state complete, eager waits for interactive, and none does not block navigation. Those settings govern navigation behavior, not whether a particular client-rendered element is ready. Selenium Browser Options and Selenium Waiting Strategies

In either tool, identify a reliable signal for the captured state: an element becoming visible, expected text appearing, or a loading indicator disappearing. Avoid treating a delay as proof of readiness; fixed sleeps can be too short on a slow response and waste time on a fast one.
Set a timeout and make failure useful
A readiness wait can fail if the page never reaches the expected state, the selector is wrong, or the navigation itself failed. Give the wait a finite timeout and report which stage did not complete so a failed capture is diagnosable:

}The 10-second value here is an example application choice, not a universal recommendation. Set timeouts to suit the site and capture workflow. If a wait times out, inspect the page and logs to determine whether the page was slow, the expected content did not load, or the readiness condition does not match the page.

Troubleshooting
- The screenshot is missing content even though navigation completed: The content may render after the navigation event. Wait for a locator tied to that content, then capture.
- The readiness wait times out: Check that the selector and expected text match the rendered page, and confirm that the application reached the intended state. Adjust the timeout only after checking whether the page is genuinely slow.
networkidlenever arrives: Ongoing requests can prevent a network lull. Prefer an application-specific locator or assertion rather than treating network silence as the definition of readiness.- The page looks incomplete after
load: A completed document load does not establish that later JavaScript updates are finished. Add a wait for the required visible content.
