Open YouTube’s Subscriptions area to see channels you follow. To “edit” one, change its notification bell or your subscription-privacy setting; to remove it, open a video, select Subscribed, then Unsubscribe. YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, Premium Lite, and paid channel memberships are separate products managed through billing controls.
What “edit a YouTube subscription” means
A free channel subscription is your follow relationship with a creator. YouTube uses it for the Subscriptions feed and may use it for recommendations and notifications, but it does not guarantee that every upload appears on Home.
- View: Open the Subscriptions feed and channel list.
- Change alerts: Use the notification bell without unsubscribing.
- Change visibility: Make your subscriptions private or public.
- Remove: Unsubscribe from a channel.
- Cancel a paid product: Use Purchases and memberships or the company that bills you.
See your subscribed channels
Android
- Open the YouTube app and sign in to the correct Google account.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap All to display the channel list.
- Use the available category or filter controls to narrow the list.

iPhone or iPad
- Open YouTube and sign in.
- Tap Subscriptions.
- Tap All for the channel list.
- Use the category or filter controls shown at the top, if available.

Computer
- Sign in at YouTube.
- Choose Subscriptions in the left navigation.
- Browse recent uploads and open the channel list where the layout provides it.
Home is not a complete subscription list: it combines videos from subscribed channels with recommendations. Use the Subscriptions area when you need to find every followed channel. Change notification settings without unsubscribing
If you still want to follow a channel but want fewer or more alerts, open the channel or one of its videos and select the notification bell beside the subscribed status. Choose the level offered by YouTube, such as personalized notifications or all available notifications. Not every channel has every option; channels designated made for kids may have no normal notification controls.
Unsubscribing and subscribing again can reset the channel’s notification setting to personalized notifications or no notifications, so check the bell after resubscribing.

Remove one channel subscription
Android, iPhone, or iPad
- Open a video from the channel.
- Tap Subscribed below the video.
- Tap Unsubscribe.
- Check for YouTube’s confirmation message at the bottom of the screen.
Computer
- Sign in to YouTube and open a video from the channel.
- Click Subscribed below the player.
- Click Unsubscribe.
- Confirm that YouTube displays an unsubscribe notification.
After removal, the channel no longer contributes to your Subscriptions feed. Home recommendations can still show related videos, because recommendations are separate from subscription status. Unsubscribing also does not erase watch history or delete previously delivered device notifications.

Make subscriptions private or public
YouTube subscriptions are private by default. On a computer, sign in, click your profile picture, choose Settings, open Privacy, then turn Keep all my subscriptions private on or off. Follow YouTube’s [privacy guidance](https://support.google.com/youtube/answer/7280190?hl=en).

Private does not mean invisible in every context: joining subscriber-only live chats or posting in subscriber-limited comments can reveal that you are subscribed.

Can you remove subscriptions in bulk?
YouTube’s current official help instructions describe unsubscribing one channel at a time; they do not document a standard bulk-unsubscribe button or bulk subscription editor. For a cleanup, use the All channel list, open each channel, and verify that its button changes to Subscribe.
Avoid extensions or automation that request broad Google-account or YouTube permissions merely to unsubscribe. Such tools can expose account data, change subscriptions unexpectedly, or stop working when YouTube changes its interface.
If a subscription is missing or keeps returning
- Check the profile picture and confirm the correct Google account and YouTube channel identity.
- Open Subscriptions, then All; do not rely only on Home.
- Search for the channel and inspect whether the button says Subscribed.
- Search its new name or handle if the creator rebranded.
- Consider whether the channel was deleted, suspended, made private, or restricted in your region.
- Refresh YouTube, update the app through the official app store, or test in a browser.
- If you see unexpected subscriptions, remove unfamiliar browser extensions and review Google account security and connected applications.
If videos continue after unsubscribing, reopen the channel and confirm the button reads Subscribe. The videos may be recommendations, you may have unsubscribed from a different account, or an extension may have changed the account. Subscription limits
YouTube’s help page, checked August 18, 2026, lists a daily limit of 75 channel subscriptions. It says the general maximum is generally 2,000 channels, although the exact limit can vary with factors such as account age and the channel’s subscriber count. YouTube recommends capping subscriptions at 5,000 for the best feed and channel-list experience. These limits can change.
Free channel subscriptions versus paid memberships
Subscribing to a channel is free. It is not the same as YouTube Premium, YouTube Music Premium, Premium Lite, or a paid creator membership.
YouTube Premium and YouTube Music Premium
- Open YouTube and tap your profile picture.
- Tap Purchases and memberships.
- Under Memberships, select the plan to view status, billing details, or management options.
If Apple bills the plan, cancellation must be completed through Apple. Partner-billed plans may likewise require the billing partner. Paid channel memberships
A paid creator membership provides perks and is separate from the free Subscribe button. On a computer, sign in at youtube.com/paid_memberships, find the membership, click Manage membership, choose Cancel, and complete the confirmation screen. Canceling a paid membership does not unsubscribe you from the channel, and unsubscribing does not cancel Premium or another paid plan.
