Blink doesn’t document a native app or direct Live View for Samsung Smart TVs. The route it does document for a television screen is a compatible Alexa device, such as a Fire TV. Plug a Fire TV Stick into a free HDMI port on your Samsung TV, enable the Blink SmartHome skill in Alexa, link your accounts, and say “Alexa, show [camera name].”

What Blink supports, and what it doesn’t

Blink’s support material describes Live View on compatible Alexa screen devices, including Fire TV, Echo Show and Fire Tablet. The pages reviewed don’t list a Samsung Smart TV as a Blink viewing device. Blink’s published app requirements name supported phones, tablets and Fire Tablet, not television models.

Samsung says its 2016-and-later Smart TVs run Tizen applications. That doesn’t mean a Blink app exists for them. This doesn’t prove that no unofficial workaround exists. It means the method Blink documents for a TV uses Fire TV, and that is the one this guide covers.

Set up Blink on a Samsung TV with a Fire TV Stick

Before you start

  • A Blink camera already set up and working in the Blink mobile app.
  • A compatible Fire TV Stick and a free HDMI input on the Samsung TV.
  • An Amazon account with the Alexa app on your phone.

Steps

  1. Connect the Fire TV Stick. Plug it into an available HDMI port on the Samsung TV and power it. Switch the TV to that HDMI input. Samsung notes that streaming devices such as a Fire Stick connect through HDMI. Remote control behavior can vary by TV model and setup.
  2. Enable the Blink skill. In the Alexa app on your phone, enable the Blink SmartHome skill and link your Blink and Alexa accounts. Blink says the skill must be enabled before you can reach Blink cameras from the Fire TV Smart Home dashboard.
  3. Let Alexa find the camera. Make sure Alexa has discovered it. Give it a short name that is easy to say, such as “Front Door.”
  4. Ask for the feed. Hold the Alexa button on the Fire TV remote, or use a compatible Alexa voice device, and say “Alexa, show [camera name].” This is the command Blink’s support pages use.

Limits to expect

  • Five-minute sessions. Blink says standard Alexa Live View lasts five minutes. Say “Alexa, stop” to end it sooner, then ask again to restart.
  • Multi-camera split screen. Don’t count on it for Fire TV. The split-screen details Blink gives name Echo Show 8, 10 and 15, and describe the feature as currently available in the United States.
  • Video Doorbell in Event Response mode. Blink’s FAQ says Live View is available by tapping the doorbell or motion notification within 60 seconds. It also notes that adding a Sync Module changes on-demand availability.

If the feed won’t show

  1. Open Live View in the Blink mobile app. If it fails there too, the problem is the camera or its connection, not the TV.
  2. Confirm the Blink SmartHome skill is still enabled and the accounts are linked.
  3. Run device discovery again in Alexa and check that the camera appears under its expected name.
  4. Rename the camera if Alexa keeps mishearing it.
  5. Update the Fire TV software and the Blink and Alexa apps.

Alternatives if you don’t want a Fire TV Stick

Option Where the feed appears Setup
Fire TV Stick on the Samsung TV The TV screen HDMI connection, Alexa skill, account link, discovery
Echo Show The Echo Show screen Alexa skill and account link, then “Alexa, show [camera name]”
Fire Tablet The tablet screen Alexa skill and account link, or the Blink app, which Blink lists as supported
Phone or tablet with the Blink app The phone or tablet Open the app and tap Live View

If you already own an Echo Show or Fire Tablet, use it first. A Fire TV Stick makes sense mainly when you want the feed on the television and have no compatible Alexa screen.
