Android developers can use Google Play Integrity API to check whether Google Play recognizes an app, whether the user account has an entitlement, and whether the device meets integrity requirements. Those are separate signals; none should be treated as a simple, user-visible installation label.
What Play Integrity can—and cannot—tell you
Play Integrity returns verdicts that answer different questions. A backend should interpret them separately rather than treating any single positive result as proof of a particular installation history.

Optional environment verdicts, such as app access risk and Play Protect, can add context about risk, but they do not replace app-recognition or licensing checks. See Google’s Play Integrity verdict definitions, last updated October 1, 2026.
How a developer should verify the claim
Do not trust a label or assertion supplied by the app UI. In the standard request flow, the app obtains an integrity token and sends it to its own backend. The backend sends that token to Google for decryption and verification, receives the verdict payload, and applies the policy for the protected action. Google recommends checking that the returned request details match the action being protected.

- Request a token in the app. Integrate the Play Integrity API and make a standard request for the relevant action.
- Send the token to your backend. Treat it as input to server-side verification, not as a verdict the client can authoritatively declare.
- Have the backend ask Google to decode and verify it. Use Google’s documented server-side flow rather than attempting to interpret or trust the token locally.
- Validate the request context. Confirm the verified request details correspond to the action, account, or transaction being protected.
- Apply a risk-based decision. Combine the relevant app, licensing, device, and other anti-abuse signals; choose an appropriate response for the action rather than relying on a single flag.

These are API request modes for developers, not consumer products. Choose based on how frequently the check is needed and the sensitivity of the action.

How to handle missing or adverse verdicts
A missing field or UNEVALUATED result is not automatically proof of spoofing or fraud. Google documents cases where verdicts are not evaluated because a requirement was not met; application integrity, for example, may be unevaluated if the device is not trustworthy enough. Optional verdicts can also depend on configuration, device trust, library or Android version, and Play licensing.

- Check the exact verdict field and its documented conditions before acting on it.
- Investigate configuration and compatibility issues that could prevent evaluation.
- Use stricter responses for higher-risk actions and consider a retry, step-up check, or limited access where appropriate.
- Do not block every user solely because one optional verdict is absent.
