To verify Apex Legends files in Steam, open the game’s Properties → Installed Files page and select Verify integrity of game files. Steam checks the installed files and says the process may take several minutes.

Restart your computer and launch Steam.
Open Library. Right-click Apex Legends in the game list, or open its Library page and select the gear icon.
Select Properties.
Open Installed Files, then click Verify integrity of game files.
Wait for Steam to finish checking the installation. The labels may differ slightly if the Steam client interface has changed; follow the current labels shown in your client.

What a verification warning means

Steam may report that one or more files failed to verify. That notice does not necessarily mean the installation is still broken: Steam says this can be normal because some files are local configuration files that should not be replaced. See Steam Support’s explanation of the verification result.

Run the check without competing system tasks

Steam advises against verifying files while disk defragmentation, virus scanning, or other system-intensive work is underway. It also says not to verify multiple games at the same time. Let the Apex Legends check complete on its own.

If Apex Legends still will not launch

Verification is one troubleshooting step, not a diagnosis of every launch problem. Steam says corrupted files can result from hardware problems, software crashes, or power surges, and recommends verification for installation or update issues. If the problem continues, Steam’s general guidance includes updating the operating system and drivers, disabling nonessential software, checking system requirements, and contacting the game’s developer for in-depth help. Apex Legends is listed on Steam as free-to-play, developed by Respawn and published by Electronic Arts. Steam’s listing says you need an EA account linked to your Steam account to play: Apex Legends on Steam.
