A name or ticker is not enough to identify a token, and an announced listing is not necessarily live trading.
What does “launch date” mean?
There is no single date that automatically answers every launch question. A token can be deployed on-chain before it is distributed, transferable, liquid, or available for exchange trading. State the milestone you are checking rather than treating these events as interchangeable.

- Contract deployment: when the token contract was created on its blockchain.
- Project announcement: when the project publicly identified the token or announced a launch.
- Distribution and transferability: when holders received tokens and could move them.
- Liquidity: when tokens could be traded against available liquidity.
- Exchange trading: when a particular exchange market began trading.
An explorer’s earliest visible transfer or decentralized-exchange trade is evidence of on-chain activity by that time; it does not, by itself, establish the project’s intended launch date. Etherscan’s guide describes token pages as showing on-chain and off-chain data for Ethereum users, and explains that Transfers and DEX Trades are chronological records: Etherscan Information Center: Understanding the Token page.
For a particularly explicit example of a stricter definition, a Kalshi event-contract rule filed with the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission and signed August 26, 2025, defines a token launch for that contract by multiple conditions, including deployment, official identification, transferability, economic value, liquidity, and distribution. Under that rule, an announcement alone, nontransferable points, or an inactive deployed contract would not meet its definition. This is a contract-specific definition, not a universal industry standard: CFTC-hosted KalshiEX LLC TOKENLAUNCH event-contract rule.

How to confirm the blockchain and contract address
- Start with a project-controlled source. Find the project’s own website, documentation, or verified announcement. Record the blockchain name and the complete contract address. Do not rely on a search result, unsolicited message, logo, token name, or ticker alone.
- Open the relevant chain explorer independently. Use the explorer for the stated blockchain and compare the address character-for-character. The same ticker can be used by unrelated tokens, and a genuine token can have different contracts on different networks.
- Check the explorer record. On Etherscan’s Ethereum token pages, the contract appears in Token Details; the Contract tab may show verified source code and Read/Write functions; Transfers and DEX Trades provide chronological activity. A verified source-code display or visible trading activity can help assess what the page shows, but neither alone proves that a project claim is trustworthy.
- Check for a migration or rebrand. Look for an official project notice explaining any address change, then verify the replacement address on its chain explorer. Etherscan describes public notes for events such as contract-address migrations and labels such as “Old Contract.” Do not assume an address mismatch is a typo until you have checked for a documented migration.
Explorer pages are useful verification surfaces, not a guarantee that every displayed field was independently confirmed by the explorer. Etherscan notes that some token-page information, including logos, links, and other creator-submitted details, may be provided or updated by the project. Give those fields less weight than the address and activity recorded on-chain.
How to verify an exchange listing
Check each exchange claim separately on the exchange’s own announcement center or asset and market pages. Record enough detail to tell the claimed market apart from other tokens with a similar name.

- Exchange name and the exact asset name and ticker.
- Trading pair, including the quote asset.
- Blockchain or deposit network, and contract address if the exchange provides it.
- Region or service scope, if specified.
- Exact date and time, including timezone.
- Separate status for deposits, trading, and withdrawals.
For example, an OKX Europe notice dated February 11, 2026, said SPACE would list on BSC in the EEA and specified an 08:00 UTC listing time on February 12, 2026, along with an ETH-chain contract address. That notice is evidence of what OKX said for its EEA service at that time; it does not establish availability in every region or current status: OKX Europe: OKX to list SPACE on BSC in EEA.
Likewise, Hotcoin’s July 1, 2026, TPTC notice gave separate opening times for deposits, withdrawals, and TPTC/USDT trading, and identified a BNB Smart Chain BEP-20 address. Treat those statuses as distinct: an exchange can open deposits before trading starts, and a trading announcement does not prove withdrawals are already enabled: Hotcoin: Hotcoin Will Globally Launch TPTC (Trendy Play Tribe).

Use listing directories to discover markets, not to settle the claim
Market-data directories can help find places to investigate, but confirm an exchange listing through that exchange’s own dated notice or market page. A directory entry alone does not establish that trading, deposits, or withdrawals currently work, that the exchange serves your jurisdiction, or that a market has useful liquidity.
CoinGecko Research’s 2026 CEX & DEX Trading Activity Report counted 1,281 token listings on MEXC and 1,273 on Gate over January 2025–January 2026, and recorded 24.04 million tokens on GeckoTerminal for the same interval. These are counts reported for that period, not current totals, a measure of market quality, or evidence that every listed token is legitimate or liquid: CoinGecko Research: CEX & DEX Trading Activity Report 2026.

What these checks establish—and what they do not
Comparing primary project information, explorer records, and exchange notices can help you identify whether claims agree and what each source actually says. It cannot by itself prove that a token is safe, legitimate, compliant with local law, or likely to rise in value. Official project announcements can still contain project-supplied claims; explorers show on-chain facts but may display creator-submitted metadata; and exchange notices are dated and can be region-specific or change over time.
Never send funds based only on an unsolicited address or a ticker match. If a source conflicts with another, pause and resolve the chain, full address, migration history, and venue-specific status before acting.
