PC Gamer’s reviewer reported being left aimed directly at a wall at high speed after a takedown camera cut. That is an observed risk, not a guarantee that every takedown turns your craft the same way.

How to use weapons and shields
Weapons and shields are unlockable special abilities you equip, not a confirmed universal set of permanent armaments. The available sources do not establish a complete current weapon roster, exact effects, cooldowns, damage, counters, or guaranteed takedown thresholds. Check the description of the ability you have equipped and its current binding in the game, then use it when it can disrupt a rival or protect your own line without forcing a dangerous route.

Ramjet: more speed, more heat risk
The same review describes Ramjet as the faster option, with a risk of dangerous overheating if pushed too far. Use it on a stretch where you can close a gap or set up a pass, and leave room to brake or turn before a corner. Watch the game’s heat and status cues rather than holding the boost through a section where you need precise control. The pre-release PS5 demo report described Ramjet activation by holding R3, but current bindings may differ by platform or version.

Craft strengths can help you manage contact and corners, but the cited descriptions do not establish a universally best craft for takedowns. Match the handling trade-offs to the circuit and to how confidently you can hold a safe line.

Read heat and track-status cues
PC Gamer’s October 2, 2026 review reports that Cooled can trigger at high speed or while cruising over water, lowering heat; Burning can result from a rival’s flame jets or racing over lava, raising heat. The review also mentions Overcharged, Corroded, and Shielded, but does not provide a complete reference chart. Use the visible status and heat cues in your run rather than assuming a condition has the same trigger on every route or with every ability.

A practical sequence for a takedown attempt
- Read the route. Look for a wall or obstacle near a rival and make sure your own line remains usable.
- Build an angle. Use a speed advantage or boost only if the approach leaves you enough control to steer.
- Use the equipped ability deliberately. Check its in-game description and binding; use it to disrupt the rival or protect your run when it does not force a hazardous line.
- Return to racing immediately. After the takedown animation or camera cut, check your heading and steer clear of hazards before chasing another opponent.
Star Wars: Galactic Racer is presented as a race-first game with craft-specific abilities, branching routes, and takedowns.
